According to Variety, Lucasfilm is shopping the rights to air all six movies on broadcast TV. Meanwhile, I’m still traumatized by Fox’s recent airings of the original trilogy Special Editions. Hopefully LFL is supplying the DVD versions this time around.
Deja Vu
More details on the TV shows. Live action, still set between the trilogies, shot in Austrailiam but now reports have it at 100 episodes long (!) at an hour each.
Am I the only one getting a Young Indiana Jones ‘blink and you’ll miss it’ feeling here? Between the trilogies with no major characters? I can’t believe I’m saying this, but not even Boba Fett and his sure-fire fanboy tractor beam? I have a very bad feeling about this.
C3 Wrapup
I’m sorry for not blogging the last few days of C3, but.. well. Busy is an understatement, and I’m saying this with a Volunteer badge. Most of the stuff from the EU panels is already out on the internet – I’d give you links now but I find working with touchpads a mild form of torture. When I return to the world of mice tomorrow I’ll get it together. However…
1. George Lucas. Not much new info, but that wasn’t really the point. He confirmed the whole TV show thing for the fifth or sixth time. (Is anyone still surprised?) but now we get details: Clone Wars will get to be a real boy (in 3D) and the live-action series will come about a year after that and be set between ROTS and ANH.
2. Legacy of Force, aka the post-NJO nine book series we’ve all heard about. There’s a metric ton about this on the internet already and I couldn’t possibly remember everything.
3. Timothy Zahn had a panel today – lots of obvious questions, but we did find out that his classic trilogy novel will be set right after ANH, involve both Luke and Mara but NOT together. NO THRAWN, praise the Emperor.
Saw the new footage again. Natalie Portman sure is getting a lot of mileage out of that one expression.
Is there more? Probably. But my brain has turned to mush.
From George’s mouth…
George himself talks the TV show in Hyperspace book excerpt – will it be a cartoon? Recent word from Lucasfilm hints that there may be more than one TV project, but it’s nice to have some confirmations that cartoons are still in the running.
Star Wars TV show gossip!
USA Today gossip columnist Will Keck claims to have talked to George Lucas at the Oscars, and picked up this:
West Hollywood, Calif.: Any news on the hot Hayden Christensen and his lightsaber?
Will Keck: How funny this question should come from WeHo. Well, I’ll be professional and say the new ‘SW’ trailer will be out this month — attached to the new FOX animated movie ‘Robots.’ Sam Jackson tells me the trailer shows who fights who — and may give a glimpse as to which character takes Mace Windu down. George Lucas also told me at the Oscars that he’s developing a ‘Star Wars’ TV show that would take place between the events of ‘Revenge of the Sith’ and ‘A New Hope.’
Doesn’t really explain the other rumors about Hamill being involved… unless they’re looking into doing Star Wars: The Wonder Years. Or animation.
Of course, a gossip columnist is far from the best source for this kind of thing, and we don’t have a direct quote, so take it as you will.
Tales of the scroll
Now Playing magazine has an interview with Genndy Tartakovsky about the upcoming episodes of Clone Wars:
“After the first batch we were all exhausted, and we were starting to move on to do other things,” explains the animator. “And then all of a sudden we were contacted that they wanted to do another batch. And I wasn’t really interested in doing another one because I thought, ‘Well, it’s really hard.’ And I thought more Clone Wars is not going to be as interesting. But then I met with George and he told me he wanted to do a story where it ties in exactly to the beginning of Episode III, and that got me excited because it seemed like it’s really part of the mythology, and it’s coming from George himself — that he respected [Clone Wars] so much that he wanted us to tell the story of the scroll from Episode III.”
More TV Rumors
This time? It’s a go, Kevin Smith is secretly working on a pilot, and Mark Hamill’s involved. Riiight.
RUMORS: Star Wars TV
This is so VERY rumor mill/wishful thinking that I’m mainly just posting it for the hell of it: Kevin Smith??? Well, it would be interesting, I’ll give you that much. AICN has their own ideas, including some refugees from Mutant Enemy.
I’m still holding out for an Batman: TAS style cartoon that plunders the EU for story fodder. I just can’t see a live action series working out in the long run…
A Jedi craves not these things
But it’s nice when it happens… Clone Wars won an Emmy for Outstanding Animated Program.
