Star Wars with occasional sarcasm
The New York Times profiles Seth Green and the folks of Adult Swim’s Robot Chicken. The show has produced several Star Wars skits, most notably this one, which according to the article got Green and co-producer Matthew Senreich an invite to ILM. (Green has been to the Ranch as well.)
Apparently the new season premiered this Sunday… For those of us who missed it, watch the whole thing at Adult Swim Fix. Sadly, it’s not the best episode…
Premium cable channel Cinemax has acquired the rights to run all six Star Wars movies in high definition. The run will start in November and does not effect the Spike TV contract, which starts in 2008.
Speaking of rumors… Kevin Smith addresses last year’s gossip of his involvement with the Star Wars TV show.
Was there ever any truth to the your involvement with a Star Wars TV show?
“No, no,” Smith says with a chuckle. “Which was so strange, because I was like, ‘Really? I wish somebody had told me.’ People kept saying, ‘Dude, you gonna be doing that?'”
Temuera Morrison will be among the stars at Disney’s Star Wars Weekends. He hasn’t been contacted for the TV series but – of course – talks about it anyway:
“If there’s anything there, it would be great of the adventures of Jango,” Morrison enthused. “We better put that in George’s mind. A weekly series about Jango Fett getting out there in the universe trying to make a living looking for some bounty — being the Clint Eastwood of space.”
Rick McCallum speaks about the upcoming Star Wars television shows at the Saturn Awards, and busts open my least favorite rumor:
McCallum also denied rumors that the new series would focus on members of the Skywalker family, but repeated that the show will take place in the timeframe between Episode III and IV. “All-new characters,” he added. “That missing 20-year period when Luke is growing up. … Think bounty hunter. That’s all I can tell you. There’s nobody else that you’ll know [in it]. At the moment. You know, it’s still [in] really really early stages. He hasn’t really sat down to think about which direction [he’s going].”
He also said that the live-action show is about 18 months off, and the animated shorts maybe a year.
According to a Variety article (Hyperspace members only) HBO has picked up the rights to run Revenge of the Sith as well as Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, King Kong, Batman Begins and several other of last year’s big grossers.

The fallout from Rick McCallum’s Empire interview is still spreading across the wire services… everyone from The Cleveland Plains Dealer to the U.K. has jumped on the OMGWTFSWTV bandwagon. (Because it’s going to be a British series. Uh, I think you’ll find a few folks in the U.S. willing to pick it up.)
