Behind the scenes on Today’s Star Wars episode
The Today Show went totally GFFA this morning — with a little help from LucasFilm. StarWars.com is all over it. And below? Drunken Ewoks steal the show.
Among the 501sters present was our pal Russ. Helen says he’s one of the troopers appears next to the X-Wing during the introduction video.
You know we’re hard up for live action news when..
There’s a door marked ‘LucasFilm Television’ at Skywalker Ranch, TV Squad claims. Offices! For the planning and billing and other exciting office-based television things! (Which could, maybe, date all the way back to The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles?)
Yes George, we are pathetic. (Announce something, please?)
Live action series coming in 2012?
That’s what Examiner.com’s Bryan Young is reporting from Steve Sansweet’s DragonCon panel. Sansweet also hinted that we may get some serious news soon!
Of course, the skeptic in me can’t fail to remind folks that this is far from the first time we’ve been given a ‘possible’ date. But Sansweet actually talking about it at a con seems like a good step.
Family Guy’s ‘Something, Something, Something, Darkside’ to debut on DVD/Blu-Ray in December
I’ve been hearing some rumors (I think they were rumors…) about this, and now we have it from the source: Family Guy will debut their long-awaited Empire Strikes Back spoof not on TV, but on DVD and two-disc Blu-ray. They’ll both be out December 22.
Forcecast talks with Steve Sansweet in Chicago
TFN’s Forcecast (which now has a brand-new website of their very own) caught up with Steve Sansweet at Chicago Comic Con. He talks about Celebration V and the issues as to why we don’t have a definitive announcement yet. Key statements: He hopes to announce it before the end of the summer, and “It could very well be later in the summer” than the previous events.
They also address the whole ‘second animated series’ thing. “You don’t build two animation studios and just do one series. You have other things in mind,” and “not nessarily Star Wars,” Steve said.
Star Wars on Blu-Ray? Sure! Eventually..
Bryan Young got talk to Steve Sansweet at Comic-Con, and naturally he asked what was up with getting the movies on Blu-Ray. Steve’s answer? Well, it’s a feature that’s likely to get folded in with that box set we’ve been hearing about for years, and we’ll see it when the live-action series is nigh: aka “the next several years.” Ahh, vagueness, our old friend!
SDCC ’09: Continuing coverage of Muggs, stormtroopers, and roller-skating mechanical chickens
Now that everyone’s settled back home and able to blog more easily, we’re starting to see a few more con reports. StarWars.com has recaps of The Empire Muggs Back and the Robot Chicken Skate party (which is now moving on to L.A.,) while Rebelscum posted a gallery of Sideshow’s customized stormtroopers. Meanwhile, Atom.com has recruited G4 hostess Olivia Munn to help with their Fan Movie Challenge. We can only pray that mullet-play is optional.
In EUish news, the Scribe Awards were also given out at the con, and Karen Miller’s The Clone Wars: Wild Space did not take the Best Novel – Adapted prize under Speculative Fiction. It went to an actual adaptation, Bob Greenberger’s novelization of Hellboy: The Golden Army. However, James’s Rollins novelization of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull did take the Adapted prize in the category of General Fiction. (How are aliens general fiction, again?) Congrats to Rollins and condolences to Miller, in any case.
SDCC ’09: Family Guy has ‘A Bad Feeling’ about ROTJ
I saw some inklings of this on Twitter earlier, but thankfully io9 has obliged us in a write-up of the Family Guy panel, where Seth McFarlane and the gang talked about their upcoming ESB parody, ‘Something Something Something Dark Side,’ and revealed the title for their Return of the Jedi spoof, ‘We Have A Bad Feeling About This.’
They hope for ‘Something Something Something Dark Side’ to air by the end of the year.
