Director Rian Johnson has shared a photo on Instagram of the first day of editing on Episode VIII.
John Williams to start work on Episode VIII soon? Not so much….
It seems that John Williams didn’t tell a Boston crowd that he was beginning work soon on Episode VIII, as earlier reports have claimed. Star Wars News Net has a video of his remarks regarding VIII, and he only mentions signing on and seeing a rough cut of the film “in a few weeks.” The conspiracy theorists can stand down – per usual, actual scoring is generally one of the last things to be done on a film.
The Force Awakens out on Blu-Ray 3D (plus Abrams commentary) in the fall
A second The Force Awakens Blu-Ray set is on tap for fall, this time in 3D. The Force Awakens 3D Collector’s Edition features a few new extras, most notably an audio commentary from director J.J. Abrams.
The release, which contains a Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray, Digital HD, and DVD, will begin rolling out on October 31 and arrive in the U.S. and Canada on November 15.
No word yet on that rumored prequel 3D set, though.

Rumor: Production names for Han movie, IX?
Jedi News has what’s likely the production name for the Han Solo film – Carbonado Industries (UK) Ltd. The second name is a tad more mysterious – PLT Productions Ltd. – but it could be for Colin Trevorrow’s Episode IX, the third spinoff or even another Lucasfilm production like Indiana Jones.
The Han Solo film will likely begin shooting early next year with directors Christopher Miller and Phil Lord and star Alden Ehrenreich for a 2018 release. IX and the fifth Indiana Jones film are both expected in 2019.
Link: Prequel trilogy, The Force Awakens rumored to be coming to Blu-ray 3D?
Rumor: Prequel trilogy, The Force Awakens coming to Blu-ray 3D in the fall? The Phantom Menace and The Force Awakens had wide releases in 3D, but the Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith conversions have only been shown at fan events.
Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver win Teen Choice Awards
Daisy Ridley was named the Breakout Star at the Teen Choice Awards last night, giving a shoutout to “her boy” John Boyega and debuting a new haircut. (Which could be for a non-Star Wars role, maybe The Lost Wife, as she’s mentioned being “employed again soon”.) Adam Driver wasn’t there, but he did win for Movie Villain for The Force Awakens.
The Force Awakens production company pleads guilty in accident that injured Harrison Ford
The Force Awakens production company, Foodles Production, has pled guilty in the hydraulic door accident that injured Harrison Ford during the filming of The Force Awakens. The weight of the door was compared to that of a “small car.”
Ford broke two bones in his left leg in the incident and was airlifted to a hospital. Foodles will be sentenced on August 22.
Episode VIII wraps principal photography
Just as the ancient scrolls predicted Mark Hamill told us a couple weeks ago, Episode VIII wrapped principal photography today. “Final slate of the final shot,” Director Rian Johnson said today of a video shared from the official Twitter and Facebook accounts. “VIII is officially wrapped. Thanks to the best cast and crew in the galaxy, and thanks to the fans for all the love and support through the whole process. Cannot wait to put it together and share it with you all! ”
