J.J. Abrams may be bringing a familiar face with him to Episode IX. Keri Russell is in talks for a role, Variety reports today. The role reportedly calls for “action-heavy fight scenes”, something she has experience with in her recent roles on FX’s The Americans, Mission: Impossible and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.
Variety also says that Abrams is looking to cast two more roles before the end of the month, when filming is due to begin.
Russell starred in Abram’s first TV show, Felicity.

The Last Jedi and Rebels were both winners at last night’s Saturn Awards. Mark Hamill won Best Actor, with Rian Johnson winning Best Writing and Bob Ducsay taking Best Editing. Star Wars Rebels was named Best Animated TV Series.
Black Panther was the night’s biggest winner, with five awards, including Best Comic-to-Film, Best Director, and Best Supporting Actress for Danai Gurira.
The eighth episode has arrived on Netflix (at least in the U.S.) for anyone who wants yet another way to watch the film. It’s part of Disney’s deal with the streaming service: Rogue One was the first Star Wars film on the service under the deal. (Again, domestically; The Force Awakens did appear in some countries, while it aired on Starz here.)

Glasgow University academic Dr. Rebecca Harrison analysed most of the Star Wars films by the percentage of screen time for women. The Last Jedi (43%), The Force Awakens (37%) and Rogue One (35%) top the list, with A New Hope (15%) and Revenge of the Sith (17%) having the least. The rankings only take into account characters with speaking parts, she tells the BBC.

A new report from Fantha Tracks says the Episode IX’s working title has been changing from Black Diamond to “trIXie.”
IX will begin filming at the end of July, director J.J. Abrams said in February. It’s due out in December 2019.
