The Lord of the Rings musical moves closer a March 23 opening night in Toronto and the set designer isn’t even nervous!
It doesn’t sound like there’ll be a chorus line of dancing Orcs or a rendition of “Don’t Cry for Me Minas Tirith.” Ah well.

Ararat5 is brandy that comes in a bottle shaped like a sword. While I can’t vouch for how good the brandy is, it could certainly be an interesting gift for the liquor or sword lover in your life.
Because I can’t stop laughing, I must share this description I found of Alton Brown:
I first became aware of Good Eats a few years ago when I was clicking through the channels and came upon his show. The only reason I paused to watch it was because I thought Alton Brown looked like Luke Skywalker. And honestly, who wouldn’t watch a cooking show by Luke Skywalker? Except maybe those damn Sand People.
From LUSH, the people who brought us “Buffy the Backside Slayer” massage bars, comes the Black Pearl bath bomb.
The Black Pearl is a dark, a mysterious Bath Bomb named in honour of Captain Jack Sparrow’s ship in Pirates of the Caribbean. This bath bomb is studded with crystals of sea salt and scented with lavender and blackcurrant.
Thanks to HollywdLiz for the find!
From Bonnie comes word that the editors of the forthcoming She’s Such a Geek: An Anthology by and for Women Obsessed with Computers, Science, Comic Books, Gaming, Spaceships, and Revolution are looking for “introspective essays that explain what being a geek has meant to you. Describe how you’ve fought stereotypes to be accepted among nerds.”
I think we know a few likely candidates…
David Edison finds the remains of Tatooine, and returns with travel tips. (Via LJ’s starwars community.)
Apparently, fur is in this season. Even for purses. This Kenneth Cole faux “rabbit” bag is the perfect place to keep your spacepops.
I’d be remiss if I didn’t give credit to BagCrazy for discovering this monstrosity, and others like it.
Meanwhile, over at Shoewawa, the ugly shoe of the week is “$144,95 if you like wearing Chewbacca on your feet.” Ha!
That’s right! It’s International Talk Like a Pirate Day. Arrrr!
Go here to pick up some lingo, including pirate pick-up lines and how to talk like a pirate in German.
On eBay, a fan is auctioning off a crocheted R2-D2 hat for charity. All money from the auction will go the Red Cross for Hurricane Katrina relief efforts. The high bid is currently $305.
As for CJrs caught in Katrina… We’ve heard from both James and Bobbi, and they and their families are all right. We’re still waiting to hear from Dave R., but we’re hoping and praying he’s safe.
I urge you to donate to to the Red Cross, Salvation Army, Humane Society, Noah’s Wish or any other disaster charity you trust, if you haven’t already. On Livejournal, Oulangi has been posting links and advice for the fandom community, and Limyaael has a list of writers and artists doing things for charity. There’s also a community devoted to such efforts – Fandom Charity.
ETA: We’ve heard from Dave and family, and they’re safe.
I was more than a little surprised that the Tori Amos Star Wars concert info ended up on TFN, since I never even considered blogging it… The Dent being as un-TFNy as a fansite can possibly get – but it’s amusing that it did. Pictures from the concert even ended up on Pink is the New Blog – scroll past Britney and Paris and look for the 5 year-old in the Amidala costume. Fuzzy, but cute. Someone on the Tori LJ community has pics, too.
