ADB is AOK, now

Big surprise. Amazon jumped the gun on premiering David Hewlett‘s movie A Dog’s Breakfast. (I know. You’re shocked!) However, all has been straightened out.

You can continue to pre-order the DVD from Amazon (although you can now do so officially)
And if you just can’t wait, you can download it from Amazon Unbox or iTunes.

And good news for non-US audiences. The international release will be the first quarter of 2008.

I’ve been lucky enough to see this film. You will be giggling for days. (And if you’re not a Gate Geek, don’t run away. This has nothing to do with Stargate, except for the cast and crew. And there’s a great sci-fi spoof in it that every genre fan can appreciate.)

Star Wars: It gets around

OH, IT’S ON NOW, BITCHES!
Silly Brits picked the Lord of the Rings trilogy over classic Star Wars in an Amazon.co.uk poll. Hometown advantage? The prequel trilogy rang in at #6 on the best list (beating Spider-Man) and #5 on the worst.

JESUS CHRIST IT’S A GOOGLE
Get in the car, ET! Google Maps Street View caught you on film! Or at least get rid of the lightsaber, dude. Your friends should get on that GPS thing by now.

Blade Runner turns 25

Star Wars isn’t the only sci-fi classic celebrating a milestone this year – Mythbuster Adam Savage’s appreciation of Blade Runner‘s special effects in Popular Mechanics. The film is getting another DVD rerelease in September (That’s three more times than any Star Wars film so far, fanboys) and the latest version will be in theaters this fall. (via SF Signal)

When I was in college, I had an Imagemaking class where we had to create a new opening sequence for an existing movie. Inexplicably, I chose Blade Runner, which I’d never seen all the way through beforehand. Although my final project wasn’t any good (it was my first time doing anything with motion graphics – I really should have known better,) I did sit down and watch the movie several times in a matter of weeks. We know very well wasn’t the first to deal in a used future setting, but it certainly perfected it. Really, I ought to pick up that DVD…

A Dog’s DVD

A Dog’s Breakfast is the much buzzed-about “what I did on my winter hiatus” film from Stargate Atlantis actor David Hewlett.

It was filmed using cast, crew and even sets from the Stargate franchise and has been earning additional showings and awards at many film festivals over the past year.

MGM has finally announced a September 18th release date for the DVD.

I went ahead and bought the download and found it beyond funny. If you enjoy British comedies, you’ll enjoy this one.
