Brief Moments of Calm

Let’s get in a few news items from our other fandom interests before the worldwide ROTSgasm takes over, shall we?

Kelsey Grammer will play Beast in X-Men 3. Is this a joke? Is it a late April Fool’s Day joke? Is the man even capable of playing anyone but an upright snob after being Frasier Crane for 20 years?

Onto less distressing pastures, Joss Whedon has written a comic boom prequel to Serenity.

Bunch of Batman Begins trailers and commercials over at TheMovieBox.net.

Many of us will be seeing the Fantastic Four trailer tonight.

And lastly, there will be a Sin City 2, and Frank Miller is writing it now. I still haven’t seen the first one. That’s why I have to go see ROTS at midnight – I have a serious demerit on my Geek Card.

Serenity trailer coming Tuesday

The trailer for “Serenity” will be up Tuesday at the official site.

Joss says:

Now, here’s a word of warning: this trailer ain’t shy. If you’re looking to live totally spoiler-free, know that there’s plenty of key dialogue and images running through this bad boy. It’s pretty tasty, though, and it doesn’t give everything away. But close scrutiny will definitely learn you much of what’s to come. (Anakin TOTALLY goes evil.) It’s a nice piece to while away the time till September, and hopefully should intrigue th’ peeps that don’t have coats of brown.

Anakin’s going evil? That’s not true! That’s impossible! Rumour has it the trailer will be attached to “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.”

Don’t panic!

“… not as bad as I had feared… not as good as I had hoped.”

That seems to be the verdict after the world premiere of “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.”

Read the BBC review here. And The Guardian’s review here.

The film opens April 28th in the UK and the 29th in North America.

McKellen joins cast of DaVinci Code

Sir Ian McKellen joins Tom Hanks, Alfred Molina, and Amelia’s Audrey Tautou in the film adaptation of the wildly popular novel.

“Sir Ian, 65, is to portray historian Sir Leigh Teabing, who is obsessed with finding the Holy Grail.

The movie may eclipse the success of Titanic – the biggest grossing film of all time – thanks to the book’s success across the world, where it has been attacked by the Vatican as heresy and sold more than 18 million copies in 44 languages.”

Or it could crash and burn. Having a harder time hoping for that now that Sir Ian’s on board.

House of Duchovny

Former X-Files star David Duchovny will make his directorial debut with a coming of age film entitled “House of D.” The film stars Tea Leoni and Robin Williams. Duchovny, who also wrote the script, will play a small part.

It goes into limited release on April 15. And Duchovny will apparently be doing a city-to-city tour with it.

The trailer looks interesting.

Oh yeah, he also says something about an XF movie and 2006. If anyone still cares.

POTC cast takes to the high seas

Johnny Depp, Keira Knightly, and Orlando Bloom are to participate in a round the world race to promote “Pirates of the Caribbean 2.”

The trio of Hollywood actors – whose fictional sailing skills delighted millions of cinema-goers in the 2003 movie – will take turns lending their assistance to the qualified yachtsmen and women in the grueling eight-month Volvo Ocean Race.

The BLACK PEARL vessel – named after the ship in the blockbuster film – will first welcome British beauty Knightley on board for the European stretch of the contest.

Bloom will take-over for South Africa, Australia and New Zealand, while Depp will be joining the Black Pearl team ahead of their return to the US.
