Today would have been JRR Tolkien’s 113th birthday. You can post a toast in honour of the Professor on the Tolkien Society website. Or just read what others have said.
Seems a fitting way to remember a great storyteller.
Star Wars with occasional sarcasm

The Leaky Cauldron starts out the year with some spoiler pictures from the filming of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
Also check out the first picture of that woman we all love to hate: Rita Skeeter.
It’s pretty impossible to miss the release date for Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, (Less than 38 chapters! Already on the best seller list!) but did you know that they’ve released two stills from the Goblet of Fire movie? Or that “harry potter” is the 8th most popular Google search in Brazil and Finland?
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince will be released on July 16th.
That would be 207 days from this post.
4968 hours.
298080 minutes.
17884800 seconds.
::sigh:: I guess we’ll just have to hold ourselves over with Star Wars Episode 3. That’s only 149 days away.
J.K Rowling is finished with Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and they’ll be annoucing the exact publication date with 24 hours. The Daily Snitch has a screenshot of the annoucement from jkrowkling.com.
I’m guessing March, always a big time for hardcovers.
Ursula K. LeGuin isn’t so fond of the director of Sci-Fi’s Earthsea miniseries claiming they’ve been faithful to the intentions of her novels.
The mini is being roundly bashed by fans as well, with a fervor I haven’t seen since TNT butchered adapted Mists of Avalon.
JK Rowling has updated her website with a headline about nothing. (Channeling Jerry Seinfeld, maybe?)
However, the nothing is that she hasn’t been updating the website due to her heavy writing schedule. (For all that, though, there are several changes in there.)
Here’s hoping she finishes the next book before her baby arrives!
Aaron Allston’s “Terminator Hunt” hits bookstores this week!
Amazon says:
Riding the crest of popularity following Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, Terminator Hunt continues the action where Aaron Allston’s first Teminator 3 novel, Terminator Dreams left off, with an exciting original story of John Connor, Kate Brewster, and the human Resistance battling Skynet and its deadly robots.
Just in time for the gift-giving season. Weeeee!
Apparently, Anne McCaffrey is trying to beat Anne Rice in the “Most Obnoxious Fantasy Writer” contest…
Not mentioned in Exhibit D, or elsewhere, is the fact that Mr. Austin had his lawsuit papers secretly served to her at Dragon*Con, because it was the only way to reach her in person.
The BBC reports that the British government has named JRR Tolkien’s house as a listed building.
This means that “protected status” will be awarded to the Oxford home where Tolkien wrote “The Hobbit” and much of “LOTRs.”
