Gambit in Wolverine!

IMAGE: So, wait, if Kol is Wolverine, than is Cade... No. Can't be. But now we know who he stole the coat from. It’s great that they might finally bring Gambit into the X-Men movieverse (or so Superhero Hype reports) but what does he have to do with Wolverine? I mean, I realize I only read X-Men comics for a year or two back in the 90’s, but the two never struck me as having much of a connection. Are they swapping Gambit in for a less popular character, ala Rogue for Jubilee in the first X-movie?

And, sorry Josh Holloway fans, but they’re also saying that Taylor Kitsch of Friday Night Lights has been cast. Hopefully he doesn’t turn out to be too much of a disappointment for the lusting fangirls. Assuming they can tear their eyes from Hugh Jackman, anyway.

ETA: Variety reports that Kitsch is in and indeed playing Gambit. Ryan Reynolds and will.i.am also join the cast as Deadpool and John Wraith.

Harry Potter fans behaving badly, part whatever

It’s been a while since we checked in on the Harry Potter Lexicon case, but yesterday’s developments plumb a new low – RDR Books requested a copy of Rowling’s notes for her own encyclopedia, claiming:

…David Hammer, lawyer for RDR… says that the notes are requested in order to “test the merits” of J.K. Rowling’s claims that she is going to write an encyclopedia and that part of the reason for suppressing the HPL would be to suppress potential competition. RDR asked for “copies of any prepatory materials that Ms. Rowling has drafted or authorized to be drafted, including notes, outlines, drafts, marketing proposals, etc.”

And I ask again: Are these people for real? Has she not out and out said several times that’s she’s writing one? Rowling and the WB’s response:

JKR/WB object to what it sees as RDR’s “pattern of writing the Court whenever it wishes without first making any effort to meet and confer, let alone giving sufficient advance notice of its intended communication with the Court”…. JKR’s “overwhelmingly sensitive” notes would serve “no legitimate purpose other than to harass Ms. Rowling. Rather, the burden of producing these notes far outweighs any benefit to RDR in obtaining them.”

Dark Horse CEO on Star Wars

ICv2 interviews Dark Horse CEO Mike Richardson. He touches a bit on Star Wars and handling franchises:

Media tie-ins seem to be the thing across all businesses these days. Before Dark Horse, I don’t think many companies had that much success with what we call licensed titles. I think the reason for that is that it was basically a financial move on those companies’ parts and I don’t know that the books were always good. They could have slapped a logo on the cover and expect that to sell, and often the work inside the cover wasn’t that great or inspiring. We didn’t approach it that way. Being fans ourselves as opposed to business people, we decided to find properties that we were enthusiastic about. In those early days, Randy [Stradley] and I would plot out stories and bring a writer in, and we’d basically create sequels to the movies and try to do it in an intelligent way. Obviously the fans responded because our licensed books sold huge numbers and still do years later.

The Star Wars stuff is in part one; part two focuses on manga and creators, and part three discusses webcomics, ratings, and plans for the future.

Eighth Potter book?

JK Rowling told Time magazine that she hasn’t ruled out an eighth book in the Harry Potter series.

“If – and it’s a big if – I ever write an eighth book, I doubt that Harry would be the central character. I feel I’ve already told his story,” she said. “But these are big ifs. Let’s give it 10 years.”

Anyone else thinking prequel?

JKR has also updated her official site with a chart showing some of the marriages and spawnings of many of the characters (get to it by clicking the pink eraser and then the door handle). George hooked up with Angelina, it’s James Sirius Potter and Charlie never married (and the slashers rejoiced!).
