A recent fund-raising drive by Harry Potter fans has raised enough funds (US$123,000!) for Partners in Health to fill three planes worth of supplies for Haiti.
The first of the three planes, named Harry, has been deployed. Ron and Hermione are to follow.

Some students at the University of Mississippi are looking to get the GFFA’s own Admiral Ackbar as the new mascot for the Ole Miss Rebels.
I hate to bring realism into this, but I don’t think the university is chomping at the bit to share merchandise profits with Lucasfilm. Still, one can’t help but wish the crusaders luck. (You can, too: They’re on Twitter.)
And hey: At my university, a bunch of (I say with affection) freaks once managed to muster enough votes to get Burt Reynolds onto the student council. Anything is possible.

A couple years back, there was Star Wars on Trial, a great collection of essays arguing about whether or not George did right by us. Now there’s a documentary doing the same thing premiering at the South by Southwest Film Festival in Austin, next month.
The People vs George Lucas strives to figure out whether or not George is the devil disguised in all his evil marketing glory or the Great Flanneled Creator of all things good.
They interview the grand and the not-so-grand, alike. And just a wee bit of silliness thrown in. If nothing else, it will serve to stoke the fires of fanboy debate for a while. And that’s always fun. (via)
