Club Jade Spa

What Caitlin failed to provide much detail on was the formation of the Club Jade Spa.

At one point, Rogue is on the floor with Derek giving him a massage (or adjustment…or something). Mike has a whole line of people waiting to get a massage. (I, Paula, knocked off Kelly for the title of tightest shoulders of Club Jade.)

Then, somehow, there was Diane painting Derek’s and Ben’s toes. Pink. Well, I think it was actually champagne. Either way, quite the effect.

Thus it was that we had a spa going in the middle of the party.

We’re about to start the Harry Potter discussion. Everyone stay safe!

“smelly boy”

A good night. Most of the suite watched Shaun of the Dead (funny, also gross) while a small but dedicated group watched Arrested Development in the other room. (Gotta love a show where incest is canon. Maeby/George Michael 4EVA!) Then, Jessa premiered the Emperor Noir drink (watch out for the blood on the rim, it stains) and we watched selected clips from Emperor Aaron’s film Deadbacks with live commentary from the director. The White Wampa gift exchange followed; Mary wound up with an inflatable Millenium Falcon while Emperor Aaron stole Susan’s boxers. Now some people are getting massages while others watch Spaceballs.

Wow, that was a remarkably coherent entry for being written under the influence of an Emperor Noir and one-and-a-half Mustafar Meltdowns.

I leave you with this thought: “The geography that I stand compares you superior!”

Cinematic History Begins

The ceremonies are about to begin to rename the Coruscant Opera House to The Emperor Palpatine Center for the Performing Arts.

Long live, The Emperor!

The dress that Steph is wearing is STUNNING! Missi’s looking pretty hot, herself.

And there are quite a few boas moulting in the suite, right now.

More highlights to come!

Live from the suite

Auditions for Survivor: Hoth are underway. I’m confident about my chances. But then, so is everyone else. Bitches.

Games night went well, per usual. Rogue introduced a Firefly game, and something called “Kill General Jar-Jar.” I didn’t play that one, but I did get to be Jayne. And I won! I think.

Less than 24 hours and we already have our first casualty – Hokie got hammered, turned himself inside out and is now sleeping with the porcelain gods. I think this is the first time we’ve had anyone get quite this drunk.

No one else is reenacting great fratboy exploits, but a few CJers were just doing the Macerana to the Imperial March.

Hokie, of course, will never live this down…

ETA: As I was posting this, Security brought us cake. Security! The Hyatt rocks.

Voice of Grievous and deleted scene make appearance at Comic-Con

Matthew Wood, Supervising Sound Editor of Episode III and voice of General Grievous, came on stage at Steve Sansweet’s Star Wars Spectacular and provided a demonstration of how he created the General’s voice, complete with sound equiptment. Fan reports have him actually have him singing a song – Hyperspace members can find out for themselves by listening to the audiocast of the event.

Steve also hinted at some of the content on the Revenge of the Sith DVD, and showed one of the deleted scenes dealing with the founding of the Rebellion. Certainly I’m not the only one hoping for an Extended Edition, ala Peter Jackson?

EU News at Comic-Con

Hyperspace members can see the cover of Dark Nest 3: The Swarm War and a sketch for the third Last of the Jedi, cover now. Both are part of the Future Star Wars Publishing slideshow, which contains sketches from Visionaries and previews of a lot of the Del Rey’s upcoming nonfiction offerings, including some fantastic artwork from the upcoming New Essential Chronology. Hyperspace members can also listen to audiocasts of the Star Wars Spectacular, Dark Horse Comics, and Publishing panels from Comic Con.

The big EU news out of Comic-Con is all about Dark Horse – ongoing series Republic and Empire are wrapping up, to be replaced by a Knights of the Old Republic (based on the game of the same name) and a “a new ongoing series of five mini-series” starting with Rebellion. There’s also a short overview of SW coffee-table and nonfiction books.

The TV show gets a brief mention, focusing on preproduction and tech stuff, during the Star Wars Spectacular.

The Belated C3 Link Report

Only now, at the end, do I understand…

I apologize for the lack of a proper Celebration wrap-up. Unfortunately, I was struck by illness at C3 and have spent the last few days in bed, when I wasn’t dragging myself to work.

Here are the highlights of C3’s online coverage. I’d do more (and suggestions are welcome) but I’m only one woman!

starwars.com @ Celebration 3
Those of us at C3 often spotted various LFL online staff members running at Ludicrous Speed through the convention center. This is what they were doing. And for Hyperspace members: video!

TheForce.net
The most expansive SW fansite was no slouch at C3 either. Be sure to check out their photo galleries.

USAToday
Everyone’s favorite rainbow-colored news source went all out for C3. They did the obligatory article, of course, but the most impressive feature is an actual blog from the Con. There are (or were: ask Eliz) some spelling/geek sobbery issues, but you gotta respect a guy who can get his bosses to send him to a Star Wars convention.

Artist’s Allied
This website for LFL-approved artists has a nice collection of C3 photo links. And you can get a closer look at some of the exclusive prints that were on sale at the con.

The Personal Approach
From the professional side of things, author Karen Traviss blogged her C3 experiences. Start here for the full picture. Bonnie Burton of starwars.com promises a few good stories in the future… Matthew Stover is keeping a blog of his book tour, which includes a stop at the con, but nothing’s up yet there or at his usual blog, but maybe soon… For more, be sure not to miss the Livejournal’s Celebration 3 community, which will give you a nice gateway to lots of attendee reports.

C3 Wrapup

I’m sorry for not blogging the last few days of C3, but.. well. Busy is an understatement, and I’m saying this with a Volunteer badge. Most of the stuff from the EU panels is already out on the internet – I’d give you links now but I find working with touchpads a mild form of torture. When I return to the world of mice tomorrow I’ll get it together. However…

1. George Lucas. Not much new info, but that wasn’t really the point. He confirmed the whole TV show thing for the fifth or sixth time. (Is anyone still surprised?) but now we get details: Clone Wars will get to be a real boy (in 3D) and the live-action series will come about a year after that and be set between ROTS and ANH.

2. Legacy of Force, aka the post-NJO nine book series we’ve all heard about. There’s a metric ton about this on the internet already and I couldn’t possibly remember everything.

3. Timothy Zahn had a panel today – lots of obvious questions, but we did find out that his classic trilogy novel will be set right after ANH, involve both Luke and Mara but NOT together. NO THRAWN, praise the Emperor.

Saw the new footage again. Natalie Portman sure is getting a lot of mileage out of that one expression.

Is there more? Probably. But my brain has turned to mush.
