Target is sponsoring a free event in Los Angeles this weekend, December 12 & 13. Dubbed the Star Wars Galactic Experience, it will include activities where you can use the Force, an exhibition from Rancho Obi-Wan, LEGO TIE Fighter building and origami making. It also has something called Galaxy Show: “Discover a galaxy of hidden Star Wars constellations.” Sounds intriguing. You’ll find it from 10 am to 10 pm at L.A. Live next to the Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles.

The Rancho Obi-Wan exhibit will include a complete collection of carded vintage Star Wars action figures from 1977 to 1985. The Star Wars Galactic Experience will also have exclusive Star Wars merchandise.

Visiting Season of the Force at Disneyland for the holidays

Season of the Force

When most folks think of Star Wars at Disneyland Resort in California, they think of the Star Tours ride, and maybe also the Star Trader shop and the Jedi Training show for children. But now, Star Wars has fully invaded Tomorrowland during the Season of the Force event. I got a chance to bring the whole Jawa family to Disneyland to experience Season of the Force as well as some of the other holiday festivities at the Park.

Wear Star Wars, share Star Wars on Friday

wearstarwarsFriday, December 4 is the sixth annual Wear Star Wars Share Star Wars Day. Started as a way to rally support for Katie Goldman, who was bullied in school because she was a girl who liked Star Wars, the movement is a way to show geek pride, take a stand against bullying and state that Star Wars is for everyone.

So here’s how you can mark the day:

  1. Wear Star Wars apparel. If so inclined, post a pic on social media with #WearStarWars2015.
  2. Share Star Wars toys. Donate Star Wars toys to kids in need, and include a note that it can go to a boy or a girl! (You’re already going to Toys R Us to get that Yavin medal, right?

Get more information about Wear Star Wars Share Star Wars 2015 on their Facebook event.

LEGOLAND California brings out the fun for the holidays

While winter brings the cold across much of the U.S., southern California stays snow-free near the coast – except at LEGOLAND California in Carlsbad. The theme park puts on its annual winter celebration, Holiday Snow Days and Winter Nights, and Baby Jawa, Grandma Jawa and I got the opportunity to check it out. This was a big treat for baby girl as it was her first time in the snow! Plus we got a chance to see Star Wars miniland and the rest of the park.

Video: Unboxing ‘Blood Sisters’, TRU medal, and Howard Chaykin’s Marvel comic art

Unboxing Star Wars 11/21/15 Chewie with medal

On Unboxing Star Wars his week, Yowie, Baby Jawa, and I hit the road to pick up a Toys R Us Epic Battles medal and award it to a deserving Rebel. Then I review this week’s episode of Star Wars Rebels: ‘Blood Sisters’, and we get a glimpse at the new exhibition of Howard Chaykin’s original comic art for the 1977 Marvel Star Wars comic adaptation. Plus we do a little bit on the #DrawWars2015 art project.

The Chaykin exhibition at the San Diego Comic Art Gallery runs from now until January 31.

The next Toys R Us Epic Battles medal will be distributed on December 4th and 5th and will be for Yavin, and will feature Darth Vader. You can earn the certificate by playing a little Where’s Waldo type game.

Star Wars Weekends is one with the Force; Jakku is coming to Star Tours

star-tours-jakku

Well, it’s finally official: Star Wars Weekends are no more. The event first appeared in 1997, continued in 2000 and 2001 and has been held annually over several weekends in May and June since 2003 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. But with the park soon to undergo expansion – and a whole Star Wars area – the retirement is completely understandable.

Speaking of new stuff, Star Tours is getting a new addition: Jakku. If you go on the ride during “the opening months,” you’re guaranteed to get it; After that, it goes in the randomizer. There’s also a “reimagined Jedi Training experience” that will feature both Darth Vader and the Seventh Sister from Rebels. All this, plus the Launch Bay with The Force Awakens exhibits, will debut on December 1.
