C3 Wrapup
I’m sorry for not blogging the last few days of C3, but.. well. Busy is an understatement, and I’m saying this with a Volunteer badge. Most of the stuff from the EU panels is already out on the internet – I’d give you links now but I find working with touchpads a mild form of torture. When I return to the world of mice tomorrow I’ll get it together. However…
1. George Lucas. Not much new info, but that wasn’t really the point. He confirmed the whole TV show thing for the fifth or sixth time. (Is anyone still surprised?) but now we get details: Clone Wars will get to be a real boy (in 3D) and the live-action series will come about a year after that and be set between ROTS and ANH.
2. Legacy of Force, aka the post-NJO nine book series we’ve all heard about. There’s a metric ton about this on the internet already and I couldn’t possibly remember everything.
3. Timothy Zahn had a panel today – lots of obvious questions, but we did find out that his classic trilogy novel will be set right after ANH, involve both Luke and Mara but NOT together. NO THRAWN, praise the Emperor.
Saw the new footage again. Natalie Portman sure is getting a lot of mileage out of that one expression.
Is there more? Probably. But my brain has turned to mush.
EU at C3
Also, Saturday and Sunday schedule for Celebration is up. Saturday includes two panels that are a can’t miss for EU fans:
3:30 — 4:30 pm Continuity: Keeping a Universe in Order. It’s a big, big galaxy out there, and the keepers of Star Wars lore have a big job making sure nothing is in conflict. Find out how they do it, and more about what’s to come, with authors Troy Denning, Timothy Zahn, and Aaron Allston, Shelly Shapiro of Del Rey, and Sue Rostoni and Leland Chee of Lucasfilm. Pablo Hidalgo of starwars.com will moderate. Behind-the-Scenes Stage.
5:00 — 6:00 pm Title Reveal! The next arc in the best-selling Star Wars novel series is upon us, and the creators will reveal the title in this special panel at Celebration III. You’ll have the opportunity to ask questions from the authors and publishers, and hear about the unique approach planned for this series. Arc authors Aaron Allston, Karen Traviss, and Troy Denning, plus Shelly Shapiro of Del Rey, and Sue Rostoni and Leland Chee of Lucasfilm. Behind-the-Scenes Stage (109).
And there’s also a Tim Zahn Outbound Flight event on Sunday.
Dark Warning
Jude Watson fans, the official site has posted a first look at the second book of the The Last of the Jedi series, Dark Warning.
Release dates bearing down…
Starwars.com posted a pretty hefty look at ROTS literature last night – interviews with authors Matt Stover (novelization) and J.W. Rinzler (Making of/Art of) as well as excerpts from all three books.
Outbound Flight
I don’t know how I missed this last night, but starwars.com has posted a first look at Zahn’s next Star Wars novel. It’s the hardcover release for October.
With the foiling of a murderous plot, C’baoth gained the influence he needed to get Outbound Flight underway. In truth, this turn of fortune was carefully engineered by Darth Sidious, the shadowy Sith Lord who wants Outbound Flight to begin, and ultimately, to fail.
The mission is doomed from the start, for lurking within Unknown Space is the Chiss Ascendancy, and the brilliant alien mastermind who will someday become Grand Admiral Thrawn. Not even the presence of Obi-Wan Kenobi and his young Padawan learner, Anakin Skywalker, aboard the gargantuan vessel can avert disaster.
Style is everything, dahling
Love or hate the Star Wars prequels, you have to admire Trisha Biggar for her amazing costuming work.
Now you’ll get to see them all! A new book will be released in the fall called Dressing the Galaxy: The Costumes of Star Wars.
It’s being released in conjunction with an exhibition in California. There’ll also be a limited edition version to chase down.
It includes quotes from many of the major Star Wars actors.
Big, Fantastic Books!
I’m all for the big Star Wars books. They usually contain such great detail and images. However, I have to admit I’m pleased that two new books coming from DK will not be appearing until October. I don’t think my wallet could take the strain of yet more books releasing in April!
To that end, this October will bring us Star Wars: The Ultimate Visual Guide (600 images!) and Star Wars: Complete Locations. They’re both packed with stuff from all six episodes.
Life is good!
More Chronicles from Steve and Pablo
Ahh…this book collector is very happy! Looks like we’ll be getting two new Chronicles books: one one the posters and one giving the Chronicles treatment to the Prequels.
Chronicle Books is the company that brings us those really cool coffee table books like the super-huge Star Wars Chronicles. They know how to do the big books correctly.
Best of all, these two books are being authored by Steve Sansweet and Pablo Hidalgo. And we know they know their stuff.
You’ll have to wait until the end of the year, though, to see them.
