In what may be the first of many new records, Avengers: Infinity War has edged out The Force Awakens as the biggest box office opening of all time. Early estimates have Infinity War with a $258.2M opening weekend (The Force Awakens took $248M in 2015).

The Force Awakens was the first live-action Star Wars film in a decade, while Infinity War is the cumulation of 18 Marvel Studios films, beginning with 2008’s Iron Man. The still-untitled direct sequel to Infinity War is coming out next May.
