It’s official… Live 8 is a go!

Bob Geldof has unveiled plans for a repeat of 1985’s Live Aid concert, called Live 8, to highlight the ongoing problem of global poverty and debt.

The free event will be held in London’s Hyde Park on 2 July with concerts in Philadelphia, Paris, Rome and Berlin.

Among the featured acts will be U2, Duran Duran, Coldplay, REM, Velvet Revolver, Bob Geldof, The Killers, The Dave Matthews Band, Sarah McLachlan, Stereophonics, and the Kaiser Chiefs.

Complete lists (so far) by venue here.

Is it 2 July yet?

Live Aid 2!

Both NME and the UKs “Top of the Pops” are confirming that Live Aid 2 is all but a done deal. It won’t be called “Live Aid 2,” but Midge Ure and Bob Geldof will be organizing the event again. The likely date is 2 July. Possible venue is Hyde Park.

The concert is rumored to feature U2, Madonna, Paul McCartney, and a reunion of the Spice Girls (uh…). More bands are sure to be added.

Look for confirmation of the event on Tuesday. Weeeeee!!!

BBC pioneers TV/radio downloads

The BBC will launch the second phase of its iMP (interactive Media Player) program (er… programme) in September. This will allow test viewers to legally download BBC television and radio programming to their computers for seven days after original broadcast.

“iMP could just be the iTunes for the broadcast industry, enabling our audience to access our TV and radio programmes on their terms – anytime, any place, any how,” said Ashley Highfield, BBC director of new media and technology.

Wahoo! This is great news for fans for Brit shows like Dr Who, Ab Fab, Book at Bedtime and Eastenders.

Serenity trailer coming Tuesday

The trailer for “Serenity” will be up Tuesday at the official site.

Joss says:

Now, here’s a word of warning: this trailer ain’t shy. If you’re looking to live totally spoiler-free, know that there’s plenty of key dialogue and images running through this bad boy. It’s pretty tasty, though, and it doesn’t give everything away. But close scrutiny will definitely learn you much of what’s to come. (Anakin TOTALLY goes evil.) It’s a nice piece to while away the time till September, and hopefully should intrigue th’ peeps that don’t have coats of brown.

Anakin’s going evil? That’s not true! That’s impossible! Rumour has it the trailer will be attached to “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.”

Don’t panic!

“… not as bad as I had feared… not as good as I had hoped.”

That seems to be the verdict after the world premiere of “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.”
