Galactica Wins Peabody

Who’da thunk it? A sci-fi show actually winning a Peabody Award?

The new Battlestar Galactica has won an award for 2006. (Okay. They also chose South Park. But really. That’s a brilliant show.)

Per the press release:

A belated, brilliantly re-imagined revival of a so-so 1970s outer-space saga, the series about imperiled survivors of a besieged planet has revitalized sci-fi television with its parallax considerations of politics, religion, sex, even what it means to be “human.” NBC Universal Television Studio.

Makes you just want to give Baltar a big ol’ squishy hug, doesn’t it?

Trading (Spouses): Not just for Neimodians

Tonight (Friday) at 9pm, Eastern, Fox will be airing the first of a two-part episode of Trading Spouses featuring a Star Wars fan trading with a more traditional mother.

The fan, Judy Hornaday, hails from Buford, Georgia and belongs to the Hothlanta Rebels fan group of Metro Atlanta.

Yours truly is in this episode. I’m sure I’ll be shown stuffing my face and saying something stupid. But hey…if Tom Cruise can do it, so can I!

Part two will air next Friday at 9pm.

Can the mundane mother handle Star Wars fans? Can a Star Wars fan handle the mundane life? Tune in and find out!

Rick spills the beans

Rick McCallum loves to talk when he does anything with Empire Magazine.

A summary of what he said:
– The TV show will be set between Episodes III and IV, will be “much darker,” and “character based.” But we still have to wait about 18 months before that starts cranking.
– George’s movie Red Tails about World War II fighter pilots is in the script-writing phase.
– George has finally approved the IndyIV script. Maybe we’ll be able to do it before Harrison Ford is in a wheelchair!

Our Other Master (Whedon) Speaks!

Empire Magazine is so much like us. They appreciate the great entertainment we do; most recently, Serenity.

They recently scored an exclusive interview with our other master: Joss Whedon; creator of Buffy (and Spike), Angel and Firefly.

In short:
1. Serenity didn’t set the box office ablaze. He’ll never rule it out, but it doesn’t look likely we’ll see another film in the series.
2. Wonder Woman is still in progress. He’s unsure whether his new horror film “Goners” will come out, first.
3. The rumored Spike film is still a possibility; if he can get some financing together. (Anyone up for a giant bake sale?)
