It appears that George Lucas isn’t the only one who enjoys “continuing work” on a franchise.
Starting on September 16th, Star Trek is getting a facelift. They’re going to “update” the original series to feature more modern special effects.
This includes redoing the opening, space shots and “some” interior effects.
Really. Go read for yourself!
This week, we revisit the summer of 1999, a time of excitment in Star Wars fandom, with the release of the first SW film in 16 years. Buzz was flying, hype was, er, hyping, and we were all still too excited about getting new Star Wars to yet fully acknowledge how much there was wrong with TPM. Whether victimized by the hype or actually enjoying the film, the Star Ladies of Club Jade were certainly Livin’ La Vida Lucas, as depicted here by CJ costuming guru Caitlin, aka JainaMSolo.
In additional Weird Al news, the video for “Don’t Download This Song” (the first single off his upcoming album Straight Outta Lynwood), can be seen here (thanks, Phil!).

After that, Diane and Derek taught some basic dance steps. It was kinda funny to watch.
We also had the auction preview. We’re up to 192 item donations and we still have people working on their contributions. (We’re going to have to auction quickly.) But the samples of Trace’s truffles? Big hit!
Arrr. I’m sure there are going to be a few drunken posts from here later tonight.
Continuing their stroll through the best of British actors, Warner Brothers has confirmed that Helena Bonham Carter will be playing Bellatrix Lestrange in Harry Potter and The Order of the Phoenix.
Still waiting for Ewan McGregor to participate!
In other HP news, it appears that there are at least two well-known authors who are trying to keep Harry Potter alive at the end of the series. John Irving and Stephen King apparently wrote to JK Rowling, asking her not to kill off the beloved wizard.
Only time will tell….
The Empire Strikes Back is #16 on FilmCritic.com’s list of the top 50 movie endings of all time.
Okay. Here’s one for the Stargate geeks out there gakked from GateWorld.
We are finally getting a sneak peek at David Hewlett‘s upcoming film A Dog’s Breakfast, starring, well, most of the casts of both Stargate shows.
Gee. That girl’s costume looks familiar….
Paul Ens reports that at least one of Revenge of the Sith’s box office records has survived Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest. It still has the best five-day opening, and looks be be safe in a few other categories.
The Art Department is a new blog by Irene Gallo, art director at sci-fi publisher Tor. Her first post is fantastic, much needed advice for cover artist wannabes. I only wish the photos were bigger, or at least links.
