Gate Geek – The Trio on to Midway

A few items of interest for those of the Gate persuasion:

  • Tonight’s episode is Trio.  There is, as always, a preview on the official site, as well as GateWorld’s compilation of all the little tidbits they can find.  (Here there be spoilers.)
  • SciFi’s Stargate blog couldn’t actually talk to either Martin Gero or Martin Wood (always a fun combination of writer and director), so they snuck into the DVD editing suite and previewed the feature on Trio coming up for the Season 4 DVD.
  • Moving on to another episode, GateWorld managed to get a sneak preview scene for Midway; that features the appearance of a beloved SG1 character.  (It does give away some of the basic storyline, if that concerns you.  But in a less major story development, I can tell you that I also prefer tater tots.)

Gate Geek – The Big Announcement!

GateWorld got the scoop.  Here’s the big casting announcement for Stargate Atlantis, Season 5:

Let the excitement and speculation begin!

ETA:  Here’s the actual press release.

Finding Sanctuary on SciFi

GateWorld talks to Amanda Tapping about the world not being quite ready for an internet-only series business model, excitement about ways to continue to use the internet, redoing the Sanctuary pilot, and the mixed feelings about branching out from her Stargate family.

Additional Stargate casting changes are supposed to be out today.  We’ll keep watching for The Big Announcement.  (Well, as much as we can while still pretending to work.)

Gate Geek – All sorts of goodness and angst!

Happy Friday! Or, as the US fans know it, happy new episode day!

  • Tonight’s episode is Outcast. Those wishing to get a wee bit spoilery, head on over to the usual GateWorld teaser or the production blog on SciFi.
  • In other SGA news, Amanda Tapping (Sam Carter) will be changing her status to that of guest star in Season 5 since her show Sanctuary has been picked up by SciFi. (If you haven’t seen Sanctuary online yet, head on over. It’s really interesting.)
  • Per producer Joe Mallozzi, The Big Announcement (TM) of the full Season 5 casting will be made on Monday. You can practically feel all the various character camps in a big ol’ whirl. Will certain are-they-or-aren’t-they dead characters come back? Okay, so we found out early that Sam won’t be there all the time, but that isn’t fair! Are they going to make us suffer through more new characters? Are we losing anyone else? Oh, the tension! Stay tuned.
  • In much more pleasant Stargate news, more The Ark of Truth goodness! GateWorld has them some new pictures. The official site got them a new teaser video about the story. (Anyone else boggled by seeing Ben Browder with long hair?)

It’s all good.

Dr. Phil disses Star Wars widow

It’s a problem many mixed marriages have to deal with: how does a mundane deal with the geek’s fascination with all things Star Wars?

Well, the issue was raised to national prominence when the wife took her issue to Dr. Phil. The celeb-doc chastised our intrepid fan on the air, but then leaned over after the taping to show a bit of sympathy towards him.

Valentine’s Day is approaching, my fellow geeks. If you have a mundane as a spouse, now is the time to start thinking of something non-fandom to give them!

Trek to Keep Trekkin’?

To butcher IDIC, it seems we could have infinite movies in the same combination…of the current cast, that is. According to an interview given to IGN by Anton Yelchin, who’ll be playing Chekov in the upcoming movie, he’s signed on for three Star Trek movies. (via)

Of course, as if mildly insulting Walter Koenig‘s dialect choices weren’t enough, he has probably started a fandom meltdown with this quote: “It’s so perfectly cheesy and B-like, and absolutely unapologetic for it.”

Granted, this was after he said he liked it. (And not entirely untrue.) But he does not realize the insanity of the fen. Poor, inexperienced boy.

Talkin’ Trek with the Trekkers (or is it Trekkees?)

If you’re the one doing the actual trekking because you’re actually making the film, doesn’t that make you (as in all contract language) a trekkee? Just curious.

At any rate, how’s this for scoring a fannish coup? TrekMovie.com had an actual chat with the cast and crew of the upcoming Star Trek movie from the set.

You can see the first glimpses of the bridge. Get a little reassurance from JJ and the cast that they’ll do right by the fans. And you’ll join the millions of others who pray with JJ that “Barring any thievery from our production office, we’re working on our first trailer right now, which will hopefully be in theaters early to mid summer. ” Trailer! Squee!
