Gate Geek – Atlantis movie and Awards!

There has been much angst and gnashing of teeth about the lack of movement on the promised Stargate Atlantis movie.  Producer Joe Mallozzi vaguely tries to reassure fans that these things take time in this wacky business and they haven’t forgotten about us.  Maybe in the fall?

Speaking of Stargate movies, Stargate Continuum racked up 11 Leo Award nominations!  And the above-mentioned Stargate Atlantis?  Sixteen.  (Okay, so Leo’s are a kinda local thing to the Vancouver area, but still nice to have kudos.)

In a slightly better-known award, Brad Wright was nominated for a Nebula for the SGA episode “The Shrine.”

Lucky Fans Get to See New Star Trek

While the film enjoyed its world premiere in Australia, Texas fans thought they were going to an Austin-area Drafthouse to get a 10-minute sneak peek of the new Star Trek Movie before settling in for a viewing of The Wrath of Khan.

After a bit of “impromptu” theater featuring one Leonard Nimoy, they got to watch the whole friggin’ movie!  Rather annoyingly, the AICN article starts going into story detail (my eyes).  If you can stop yourself, quit reading when he talks about the excitement level in the audience.  If you can’t stop yourself, here’s a much tamer description.  (via)

Bummed you missed the excitement?  You can console yourself during the long wait by getting a Star Trek bridge wall mural.

Gate Geek – Teaser with Much Emotion

The second Stargate Universe teaser aired on Friday.  Very heavy on the drama and emotion.  Even though this is a “grittier” show, they’d best show some humor soon or the fan base will get even grouchier than they already are.

Over on GateWorld, coverage of the Friday events at the Vancouver convention is up.

And I should probably hand this over to Dunc for her ongoing series on fandom cakes, but it was too cute for me to pass up:  Stargate cakes! (via)

Aaron Allston Information Website

Although he’s had a bit of a rough time of it, we’re finally seeing some signs of improvement in Aaron Allston after his heart attack and subsequent bypass surgery.

His family and friends have established a LiveJournal community as a central place to update everyone on his condition. As his sister posted here:

I just spoke to our mother and she did report that he is doing better (but there’s a long way up) and one of the major things they’re facing right now is what you might call an outpouring of love in excess of the ability to process it all.

One of his good friends has posted all the details of all that’s happened in the past week.  (You do not need to be a member of LiveJournal to read the page.)

As a reminder, there is an ongoing blood drive for those in the state of Texas.  Each time someone donates, Aaron gets a credit on his bill.  In addition, you get to save someone’s life.  So please consider it if you live in the Lonestar State.

Update on Aaron Allston

As you have probably already heard, a good friend of Club Jade, Aaron Allston, recently underwent bypass surgery. He’s currently in intensive care, but stable.  Our thoughts and prayers are with him.

For those in the Dallas area, a blood donation sponsorship has been set up by his family.

UPDATE: There are several other donation centers in the Carter Blood Care system where you can donate blood.  They’ll give you a coupon that you can then mail to the DelRey address to go towards Aaron’s bill.

As you’re no doubt aware, expenses for this kind of event can get astronomical pretty quickly.  Please stay tuned as we work with Aaron’s family to see how else his fans can help.

Gate Geek – Jack’s Back!

This week is the biggest Stargate convention of the year:  Creation’s Stargate con in Vancouver.  So it stands to reason we’ll be getting lots of fun tidbits via GateWorld.

Best of all is the news from producer Brad Wright that Jack (Richard Dean Anderson) will be appearing in Stargate Universe!

Gary Jones has also confirmed that everyone’s favorite Chevron-counter, Walter, will be appearing.

And rumors (totally con-based rumors…and you know how those get) are swirling that Michael Shanks (Daniel Jackson) and Amanda Tapping (Sam Carter) are also appearing because they suddenly had to push back their appearance at the con for filming.  (Probably have to nix at least Amanda on that one.  Sanctuary is currently in production.  And Michael is doing a pilot.  But I’ll take it, if it’s true!)

Either way, you can catch all of these folks tonight (Friday) on Sci-Fi SyFy as Stargate takes over this Friday with airings of The Ark of Truth and Continuum.  (If you haven’t seen Continuum, watch.  It’s a really good one!)

Gate Geek – Newsbits

Well, look who’s been a bit lazy!  So what’s been happening around the Gate, lately?
