There’s more Forces of Destiny talk in today’s Star Wars Show, including an interview with Ashley Eckstein.
We also get the announcement of the Star Wars Rebels S3 Blu-Ray/DVD, which will be out on August 29. On the show, a short bonus clip focusing on Mon Mothma.

Forces of Destiny will debut online July 3 – next Monday – on Disney’s Youtube channel. New shorts will then premiere on the channel every day at 10 a.m. PDT (1 p.m. EDT.)
Eight in total, the shorts will feature Rey, Jyn Erso, Leia Organa, Sabine Wren, Padme Amidala, Ahsoka Tano “and others.” (We get a glimpse of Luke, Yoda and… a tree in the preview video above. Is the tree female? Or is that supposed to be Anakin?)
Rebels’ Hera Syndulla will reportedly appear in an episode set during Return of the Jedi.
Their broadcast debut will be Sunday, July 9 on the Disney Channel. Merchandise drops in August – early looks at the toy packaging are floating around now.
Because you can never have enough, I guess. Vanity Fair has a handful of pictures from Lucasfilm’s Kathleen Kennedy and her daughter, Meghan Marshall, during Annie Leibovitz’s Vanity Fair shoot.
Among the Star Wars exclusives for San Diego Comic-Con is a special edition of Christie Golden’s Battlefront II: Inferno Squadron. The book is officially out July 25, so this gives fans at the con (July 20-23) a few days jump on it, assuming they get there before it sells out. For now, there’s the first excerpt. The game’s star, Janina Gavankar, has an extended interview from her Star Wars Show apperance.
→ In addition to their Star Wars Adventures series, IDW will launch a with an 80-page The Force Awakens adaptation for young readers. It’s written by Alessandro Ferrari, with art from “a group of Disney artists.” Look for it in August.
→ Timothy Zahn talks writing and his latest Star Wars novel, Thrawn, with the New York Daily News. He reveals that he’s pitched two-more post-Thrawn novels on the character. (Though, as us Legends fans know, that doesn’t mean LFL will take him up on them.) He also has an extended version of his Star Wars Show interview.
Another report on Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s Han Solo exit has come out this morning from The Hollywood Reporter. It details an even more strained situation than the previous articles, with editor replacements, a late hiring of an acting coach, and overall strain on set.
The Entertainment Weekly story from last week has also been updated today with some new information.
Two new comics and a reprint are coming to your favorite comic venue on Wednesday. Doctor Aphra #8 takes out ‘The Screaming Citadel’ crossover storyline, while Poe Dameron #16 looks deeper into the new villian. The reprint is a weird one: Called Droids Unplugged #1, it reprints shorter material from Poe Dameron #1, Star Wars #25 and Darth Maul #1. Marvel being Marvel, there’s an alternate cover version as well.
Ron Howard is the new director of the untitled Han Solo film. His name came up in the trades shortly after it was announced that original directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller were leaving the project. (Or fired, if one believes the trade reports.)
Entertainment Weekly’s Anthony Breznican has a new take on what lead to the split – and why it wasn’t apparent earlier.
Howard may not be the most exciting choice, but he is a proven director with a lot of experience – which is probably just what this extremely complicated situation needs.
The film will resume shooting on July 10.

I have rolled my eyes at a lot of the so-called “panic” over the Han Solo film, mainly because most of it didn’t actually seem to be about Han Solo. But directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller leaving due to “creative differences” before the film is even done shooting is concerning, because: Just now?
“It’s become clear that we had different creative visions on this film, and we’ve decided to part ways,” Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy said in a statement. “A new director will be announced soon.” It’s apparently keeping the May 2018 release date, at least for the time being.
This is all very unusual, and I haven’t the slightest idea what to think. (Word is there’s still three more weeks of shooting.) The rumors and thinkpieces will be flying over the next few days. Be cautious! But for the moment, we’re all just going with “what?”
Update #1: Variety is reporting that the two clashed with Kennedy – who fired them – and co-writer/executive producer Lawrence Kasdan. The Hollywood Reporter has more details.
Update #2: Deadline says Ron Howard is a top choice to finish off the film. Kasdan himself is also reportedly a contender.
We knew this day would come, but it’s almost on us: Rogue One will become the first Star Wars film on Netflix next month. (In the U.S., anyway.)
The only question? When will the rest of Star Wars join it? The Force Awakens is presumably still tied up with Starz, but the streaming fate of the other six films is still a big question mark… Assuming you don’t already own them digitally.
It’ll be a big Wednesday for comic fans, with three originals and two reprint collections. For single issues, you have Darth Vader #2, Darth Maul #4 and the Poe Dameron Annual #1 (which also has an alternate cover, naturally.)
The reprints are our first trade for Doctor Aphra, collecting #1-6, and the second for Poe Dameron, collecting #8-13.
