We’re just over a week away from the release of Jason Fry’s The Last Jedi novelization on Tuesday, March 6. Copies have been spotted out in the wild, and “spoilers” (such as they are) are running rampant, so beware the kneejerk reactions.
The Director and the Jedi, a look at Rian Johnson and the making of The Last Jedi, will have its World Premiere on March 12 during South by Southwest in Austin.
“We had [Anthony Wonke] & his crew on set every day, we were always radio mic’d up,” Johnson tweeted. “This isn’t talking heads & b-roll, it really gets into process & captures what the shoot felt like. Excited to see it with a crowd…”
An intimate documentary delving into Rian Johnson’s process as he comes in as a director new to the Star Wars universe. A fan since childhood, he sets out to make the most powerful Star Wars movie he can. Navigating the mammoth production, the scale of which he’s never directed before, we meet his cast and crew, see their individual challenges in bringing the film together, say goodbye to Carrie Fisher, and explore the significance of Rian’s more surprising decisions.
The documentary gives you a view of what it really was like to make “The Last Jedi”. As the team strive to do their best, what shines through is their passion and how memorable an experience it is for Rian as director.
They have a script, and it begins filming at the “end of July”, J.J. Abrams says on The Late Show. That’s it. That’s the news. But the Episode IX director’s interview with Stephen Colbert has some fun bits. Watch it:
The list of stars who appear on the Walk of Fame is expansive, but it does include (at least) Ford, Billy Dee Williams, Laura Dern and Alec Guinness, as well as effects legend Dennis Muren, Solo director Ron Howard and Alan Ladd Jr., the studio executive who was instrumental in getting Star Wars off the ground.
The next two episodes of Star Wars Rebels, ‘Wolves and a Door’ and ‘A World Between Worlds’, air next Monday at 9:00 ET on Disney XD. Missed Mortis? Fear not, it’s back.
It’s official! The Last Jedi will be available for home release digitally in March 13 and on Blu-ray and other physical formats (including Blu-ray) on March 27.
