These are the most adorable action figures ever. I want them. Well, maybe not Luke. But pass me a Chewie. Plush Cthulhu is lonely.
Movie News: Alexander, X-Men, and… He-Man
The full trailer for Alexander is up – the effects shots look quite impressive, but watch out for Angelina Jolie chewing up the scenery. IESB has stills.
Coming Soon visited the set of the Narnia film and attended a press expo – they have some intriguing information about the filming of The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe and future plans for the series.
The third X-Men movie has a writer – Simon Kinberg, who’s responsible for several movies that… aren’t out yet, including Marvel stablemates Fantastic Four and Elektra. This is less than encouraging news for those of us who hoped Joss Whedon would take up the reins. They’ve also hired David Benioff (Troy) to write a Wolverine movie. Whee!
Also… He-Man? Does the world really need another He-Man movie?
Up, up, and away
The news of SpaceShipOne, the first ever privately owned manned space flight, has been all over the press. The technology has been licensed to Virgin, and in 2007, you too can experience the thrill of space flight for an estimated price of $190,000.
And of course… They’re naming the first ship Enterprise.
You could use a good kiss!
Ship_manifesto, a fannish Livejournal community dedicated to character pairings, has an essay up on Han & Leia. It features an explanation of the ‘ship (like we wouldn’t know! ;) and fan fiction recomendations. As far as I can tell this is the only Star Wars pairing currently featured, although Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan, Han/Luke, and Face Loran/Tom Phanan (!!) are in the queue.
I see by your implant…
Fan audio isn’t my thing, so many thanks to Jade Crusades for pointing out an episode of Requiem of the Outcast that features an interview with Timothy Zahn and Aaron Allston at StellerCon 2004. The interview starts at 15:20 and just might bring back your post-con depression. They talk about other authors writing their characters, fan reaction, Piggy, killing characters, writing in the original Wookiee, websites as self promotion, hints about Zahn’s Outbound Flight novel and even filking. (!)
Princess Power
In San Francisco for Halloween? Take part in Lots of Leias. All Star Wars characters are welcome.
George’s Back to School
The University of Southern California’s Daily Bruin has an article on George Lucas. He was on campus to show THX 1138. The writing is a tad cheesy (‘Even today, the “Star Wars” faithful will don their capes and wait in line for hours
Droid Wrangler
The official site has a multi-page profile of Don Bies, Lucasfilm’s go-to guy for keeping droids in check. Some interesting insight on the unique issues of working with Artoo and Threepio. Spoilers are fairly minor – just don’t look too closely at the pictures.
In other Ep3 news, some collector cards have gone up on eBay, with new images and some spoilery information. Check out the auctions here and here. See them at IESB. Watch for MAJOR SPOILERS.
Jedi like girls!
The official site posted a teaser for Jude Watson’s Secrets of the Jedi yesterday, complete with cover art.
RUMORS: Star Wars TV
This is so VERY rumor mill/wishful thinking that I’m mainly just posting it for the hell of it: Kevin Smith??? Well, it would be interesting, I’ll give you that much. AICN has their own ideas, including some refugees from Mutant Enemy.
I’m still holding out for an Batman: TAS style cartoon that plunders the EU for story fodder. I just can’t see a live action series working out in the long run…
