Here’s yet another addition in the lists o’ love to celebrate Valentine’s Day – Entertainment Weekly has posted their list of Pop Culture’s Best Couples: 26 True (Fictional) Lovers. Included are Han and Leia (#4), Ron and Hermione (#8), and Aragorn and Arwen (#13). They have even included Apollo and the Midnighter from The Authority (#17). I do have to take issue with Buffy and Angel (#6). Buffy and ANGEL? Ick. Now Buffy and Spike, that’s more like it.
Tolkien estate sues New Line Cinema
J.R.R. Tolkien’s estate and publisher HarperCollins are suing New Line Cinema, claiming that they have not received a penny of royalties from the estimated $6 billion the trilogy of The Lord of the Rings films have grossed worldwide. In addition to damages, the plaintiffs are seeking a court order giving the Tolkien estate the right to terminate any rights New Line may have to make films based on other works by the author, including The Hobbit.
The Hobbit is tentatively slated to begin production next year, with releases planned for 2010 and 2011, and such a court order would place current plans for this film in jeopardy.
Mulder and Scully Together Again
Jessa discovered that David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson will be making their first-ever joint convention appearance, along with director-writer-producer Chris Carter and writer-producer Frank Spotnitz to discuss the upcoming X-Files movie. This rare convergence will be taking place at WonderCon in San Francisco on Saturday, February 23.
Jessa also mentioned that she would be excited, except that there is no Skinner involved.
Half-Blood Prince Filming
The Leaky Cauldron reports that filming is underway at the Gloucester Cathedral, with the cast members now arriving. They have some great behind the scenes photos including images of Alan Rickman, Rupert Grint, and a red-headed stunt double. There are also some cute shots of some of the local schoolkids, who have been cast as extras, excitedly goofing around on the site. Lucky kids!
Anakin and Windu Rumble!
There are some videos as well as still shots from the teleporting-mutant movie Jumper with Samuel L. Jackson and Hayden Christensen, which comes out in a couple of weeks. Jackson twirls a mean taser! I wonder if he learned that by playing with lightsabers.
How To Stop Time
This is the coolest thing I have seen in awhile – a flash mob totally pwned Grand Central Station and confused the mundanes. Geeks rule.
Home Cinema Heaven
I was thrilled when we could finally replace our old television that we left by a dumpster with one that has all of its colors and doesn’t unexpectedly change channels. The owners of these amazing geek chic home cinemas apparently have far higher standards in mind for their media viewing experience. Especially impressive is “The Bridge” that one guy actually built by himself. DIY insanity!
Bad News, Harry Potter Fans
Because Pan’s Labyrinth director Guillermo del Toro is in talks to direct The Hobbit, it looks like he will be too busy to direct Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
San Diego Rocket Race is on Totally Rad Show!
YAY! The episode of the Totally Rad Show with Club Jade’s very own SirDan and Jawajames’ fabulous San Diego Rocket Race has finally been posted!
If you don’t want to watch the entire show (but you should, because it is awesome), you can catch Part I at 16:36-21:30 and Part II at 40:29-46:53. In the first part, you’ll see James introducing the race at the starting line, and Dan giving Team Totally Rad Show a bit of a hard time at the first clue stop since they were dead last. He had to push them forward in the race, skipping two clues to catch up to everyone else at the lunch point. Sorta.
In the second part, the guys continue to struggle and have a good old time anyway. The Time Warp at Jesse’s stop is priceless. They finally arrive at the finish line (2
