In an interview with Del Rey’s Suvudu blog, Aaron Allston talks about the current series, Fate of the Jedi (Have you finished Conviction yet?) and drops a few more details on his upcoming Wraith Squadron book.
Most of the action takes place in the same approximate period as Fate of the Jedi, but there are critical chapters that revisit the Wraiths in earlier years, starting just after they made the jump to become an Intelligence unit. The current-era story reunites some of the longtime Wraiths, introduces new ones, and even has second-generation Wraiths.
Head on over to Suvudu for more on the Wraiths, FOTJ, and the Jedi in general.
This might be a little spoilery, but I wanted to put it out there: The flap blurb for Conviction really pissed me off. In the very first sentence it’s already spouting off about Daala’s overthrow by the Jedi in the past tense–like it was supposed to have happened between books–but that plot point doesn’t arrive until more than half-way through the novel. Who are the advertising wizards that thought this was a good idea? They completely robbed two-hundred pages of new novel of all tension and building suspense for the sake of some punchier catalog copy. I don’t normally get on my high horse about this kind of thing because it reeks of self-entitlement, but, at the cost of a new hardcover, readers deserve better out of DelRay and Lucas Books. And if we don’t, Aaron sure as hell does.
