IGN’s Eric Goldman asked ABC’s Paul Lee about seeing Star Wars make the jump to TV today. His answer was a bit roundabout, naturally:
“I certainly have a glint in my eye. They have a lot on their plate when you look at the features that they’re planning on rolling out for the next few years, but we’ve started conversations with them.”
He went on to say “It would be nice to use other strong Disney IP” and that “It’s an amazing world.” I wouldn’t count on seeing or hearing much soon, but at least we know a live-action option is still on their minds.
If this goes forward, wonder if they’ll keep or trash the scripts and other groundwork for the live action series that Lucas was trying to develop.
I hope they do something else, because everything they’ve said about that live-action series just sounds really boring to me.
Honestly, I wonder if we’re going to get movies every year, why bother with yet another TV series? It made more sense when there were going to be no more movies.
Of course, the old mini-series format seems to be on the rise again, and that I could maybe get behind…
But a lot probably depends on how well MAoS does.
Yeah. I would have been interested in the time period of the series Lucas was developing, but not so much the Boba Fett/bounty hunter centric direction they seemed to be going with it.
I don’t think they’ll simply develop the 50 existing Underworld scripts, as the reason they were shelved in the first place is because they were hideously expensive.
Also, I suspect Disney/ABC would want something a bit more traditional and family friendly for the large chunk of money the show would cost.
Disney president Paul Lee???? Mr. Lee is ABC Entertainment Group president.
I took the terminology from the link… Haven’t yet memorized an entire conglomerate’s names and titles yet, sorry. But I’ve changed it to simply “ABC’s.”
For years, I was really psyched to see the fabled live-action series, but with the sequels coming and spin-offs in development, that project has lost a lot of its former appeal. Still, they seemed to have some considerable talent lined up to write their 50 scripts (and develop concept art and the like), so I would very much like to know – not necessarily see – what they had planned. And if it was TV gold, why not turn it into a game or something and then focus on a more affordable Star Wars project? Just call up David E. Kelley and make a Star Wars courtroom drama series set somewhere between the Republic and the Empire. I’d watch that (I think). ;-)
