Continuing our review of the year that was, we have a glimpse back at how Star Wars has been lighting up the video screens – mostly our televisions in 2011, with an epic year for The Clone Wars, and the Blu-ray release of the Star Wars saga.
Green and Senreich talk up Star Wars comedy show
io9 caught up with Seth Green and Matthew Senreich, and got a few todbits on both their Star Wars comedy show and the third Robot Chicken: Star Wars special. Here’s a little more on the timeline:
“It’ll be sketches all over the canon, but there will be a more linear canon… actually from before the first prequel to Return Of The Jedi,” says Green.

SDCC: Saturday (and some Friday) roundup
Someone got stabbed with a pen in Hall H this evening; There’s a report from San Diego’s NBC affiliate and Comic Book Resources and Entertainment Weekly are on the case. (Harrison Ford is not a suspect.) The rumors have been flying over Twitter, including allegations that seat-squatting (a common practice) was a factor.
- In the wake of our first glimpse at the cover, StarWars.com has a clearer look and the blurb for John Jackson Miller’s Knight Errant paperback.
- The prequels are safe from Family Guy; Indiana Jones, not so much. Their Return of the Jedi spoof is named… wait for it… “It’s a Trap!” Oh Family Guy, your creativity is boundless.
- Even putting The Clone Wars aside, there were a few EU figures in Hasbro’s presentation – more than I was expecting, anyway. The Comic Packs continue (as Entertainment Earth exclusives) with Legacy’s Deliah Blue/Darth Nihl. Knights of the Old Republic’s Jarael/Rohlan Dyre (image 50,) Jaster Mereel/Montross from Jango Fett: Open Seasons and Rogue Squadron’s Baron Fel/Ysanne Isard (51.) I suppose the Jodo Kast on 35 counts, too.
- Hungry for The Old Republic news? Here’s Pablo’s report from the MMO’s panel.
- Oh, hey, Avengers.
Revenge of the Robot Chicken: Star Wars
Great news for fans of Star Wars parody: Robot Chicken’s third Star Wars episode will premiere December 12, with pretty-boy Zac Efron voicing Anakin. They’re trying something new this time:
“We’re telling more of a linear story this time that covers the series from start to finish,” says Green. Added Senreich says, “We wanted to take the Star Wars universe and see if through the eyes of our Robot Chicken: Star Wars Emperor Palpatine, Darth Vader, Boba Fett and Gary the Stormtrooper. We’ll still flip around the universe but we’ll get a unique perspective from the bad guy side, from people who just want to rule the universe.”
Whatever it is, I’ll tune in.
As for that other TV parody, it now has a poster.
Star Wars to rule TV this weekend
Spike is taking the original trilogy for a go-round beginning Saturday, while Fox will air Family Guy’s ‘Something, Something, Something Dark Side’ as the show’s finale Sunday night. (I doubt it’s worth missing the Lost finale, but I suppose people will watch it anyway.)
There’s Something About Lois? Family Guy: ‘Something Something Something Dark Side’ on DVD
The second installment of Family Guy‘s retelling of the Star Wars saga comes out today on DVD and Blu-Ray (bypassing a TV broadcast). Entitled ‘Something Something Something Dark Side’, the Griffin family slips back into their Star Wars roles to retell The Empire Strikes Back. Does Darth Vader (Stewie) tell Luke (Chris) that he’s his father, or his brother?
- Crave Online calls it freakin’ hilarious and a truly deranged spin on the Star Wars universe, and posts the trailer.
- Metromix Atlanta says that it is worthy of purchase, but sums it up:
“Now, this doesn’t have as many of those insightful moments as the “Blue Harvest,” nor is it as funny as the “Robot Chicken: Star Wars” episodes, but that isn’t to say you shouldn’t get this if you love either “Family Guy” or “Star Wars.” Especially since, at the moment, there are no plans to air this on TV (and even if they did, it would be without some of the best lines, if you know what I mean).”
- Cinema Blend points out that a deluxe edition featuring a lunchbox and t-shirt (of the chicken as Boba Fett) is available at Best Buy.
- Monsters and Critics has photos of the stars who came out for the Something Something Something Dark Side release party. Nathan Fillion?
- Geeks of Doom ponders the potential of Family Guy spoofing Indiana Jones next, after they finish the Return of the Jedi parody, ‘We Have a Bad Feeling About This’.
So, need a last minute Christmas present for the Family Guy or Star Wars fan? This might be a winner!
Out this week: Legacy, KOTOR, The Clone Wars
Three comics out in a holiday week? Stranger things have happened, I suppose… Yes comic fans, you get three on Wednesday: Legacy #43, Knights of the Old Republic #48 and The Clone Wars: The Colossus of Destiny TPB.
Oh, and there’s some Family Guy DVD as well.

Looks like someone discovered computer graphics. (Watch it in better quality at Apple.com.)

Wow. A new trend?
Family Guy’s ‘Something, Something, Something, Darkside’ to debut on DVD/Blu-Ray in December
I’ve been hearing some rumors (I think they were rumors…) about this, and now we have it from the source: Family Guy will debut their long-awaited Empire Strikes Back spoof not on TV, but on DVD and two-disc Blu-ray. They’ll both be out December 22.
