Del Rey, Dark Horse and LFL meet to discuss the EU future

Last week, folks from Del Rey and Dark Horse were at Lucasfilm to discuss future Expanded Universe projects. Frank Parisi shared a tease from Del Rey, and new editor Jennifer Heddle tweeted that she’s “Feeling very energized about SW publishing!” There’s also an interview with Heddle at Suvudu, though note it does predate the big meeting.

Hopefully this means we’ll be seeing more news trickling out in the coming months… The cupboard has been pretty bare lately!

  1. I’m a little uncertain. That teaser says ‘new series’ (as I’m sure you’re aware, being the one to post it, and all) yet we’d been told that there will be no larger series’, rather concentrating on trilogies, duologies, and standalones. That, to me, doesn’t sound like a series, at all. Unless they mean a series built up of trilogies, duologies and standalones.

Sigh. I hope not. I hope it’s just a trilogy. The consistent thing that Del Rey has had trouble with – at least where the big 3 post-ROTJ is involved – is turnover. The NJO may have had ‘duologies’ and ‘standalones’ but it all boiled down to slightly different variations of the same increasingly tedious slop: No turnover.

On the other hand, it could be a sideline series in the same vein as the X-Wings or ImpCom.
