Trek’s Orci talks reboots with StarWars.com

Bonnie talks to Star Trek co-screenwriter Roberto Orci about the movie, the influence of Star Wars, and Fringe. Here’s what he has to say about rebooting Star Wars

I’d love to go back to the time in between the movies A New Hope through Return of the Jedi, and see other planets and the people who live on them, and how they see the war like we’re following the war in Iraq. It would be interesting to see other people respond to finding out there’s a base on Bespin.

Ehh. Isn’t one (well, two) Clone Wars enough? Even if one does take the concept to the OT, it just sounds like filler to me.

MTV takes the saga out for Memorial weekend

In their ongoing quest to air anything but actual music, MTV will be showing all six Star Wars movies throughout the holiday weekend. (Hey, at least it’s not The Hills!) According to StarWars.com, it will go thusly:

  • Saturday, May 23: The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones.
  • Sunday, May 24: Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope.
  • Memorial Day, Monday, May 25: The Empires Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.

Check MTV’s schedule (in EST) or your local listings for times.

Star Wars Weekends taking over Disney NOW

Photo is by Josh Hallett aka Hyku @ Flickr.Yes, it’s that time of year again, when people get crazy enough to actually go to Florida. Okay, I kid. (Seriously though, please don’t put C5 there.) Today marks the start of the first (of four) Star Wars events at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. To celebrate, StarWars.com has tips on getting ready and, of course, a schedule.

  • Guests: Jay Laga’aia and Ashley Eckstein are hosting this weekend, with Ray Park, Warwick Davis and James Arnold Taylor making appearances. Later on Peter Mayhew, Matt Lanter and Dave Filoni will be showing up: The full list is here.
  • The Clone Wars: Naturally, the target demographic gets plenty of TCW.
  • Buy stuff: You know what to do.
  • You might not get to see these, but… Everyone loved the “backstage” posters.

Gate Geek – A lil’ of this, a lil’ of that

It’s me!  The world’s worst internet reporter catching up, yet again, with the news.  Let’s just do this quickly, shall we?

The more techno-savvy cast of Stargate Universe have been doing what they can to generate enthusiasm.  (And I’m starting to see the tides turning, all you Stargate skeptics!)

It will be good.  I have faith.

Drive-by movie news: Benders, Fanboys, Terminators and Potters (oh my)

Seriously, what if it sucks? Fanboys to head to Sydney for a sequel? Nice idea, but I’m not holding my breath.

He’s John Connor. JOHN CONNOR! Terminator Salvation has already taken in $3 million, despite a a steady stream of bad reviews.

Obligatory Twilight news. Kristen Stewart looks thrilled to be in the New Moon poster. Meanwhile, poor Robert Pattinson confirms they’ll be taking the movies all the way through Breaking Dawn. I for one can’t wait to see how they handle the… Well, you know.
