Everyone catch up with The Clone Wars

Got way behind on blogging the last few weeks, and I’m afraid The Clone Wars took the brunt of it. Ironically, StarWars.com is running an ‘online marathon’ of all the already-aired episodes (are they not all going to be up past Jan 5?) and so you guys can take this time to catch up as well. There’s also some games and stuff, apparently.

The last episode, ‘Lair of Grievous,’ aired more than a week ago (gulp) and came with all the trimmings: Commentary, Holonet News, webcomic, even posters for the Hyperspacers. And of course, you can now watch it online.

Drive-by movie news: Avatar movie casting sparks ‘net rage, Scalzi’s best-of, Bat-rumors!

Fans up in arms over casting: M. Night Shyamalan is making a movie version of Nickelodeon’s animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender, and the first casting choices were announced last week. The problem? Well, Avatar is set in an Asian-inspired world, with a multiethnic cartoon cast, and the live-action choices thus far are entirely caucasian. Naturally, fans are pissed.

(And since y’all would probably stone me if I didn’t include this, let’s not forget Avatar’s primary Star Wars connections: The Clone Wars’ Dave Filoni directed several episodes, while Mark Hamill voiced Fire Lord Ozai, the show’s ultimate antagonist.)

Majel Barrett, First Lady of Star Trek, beams up…

Majel Barret Roddenberry as Christine Chapel in TOSMajel Barret Roddenberry, Star Trek actor and wife of Trek creator Gene Roddenberry, passed away on Thursday of leukemia at the age of 76. Known for her roles as Nurse Christine Chapel in the Original Series, Lwaxana Troi in The Next Generation, and the voice of the ship’s computer (of nearly all Starfleet and Federation vessels) in all the series and films of the franchise, including the upcoming JJ Abrams reboot.

Jawa’s note: I met Majel Barrett at a Star Trek convention in 1993, and though I really didn’t know who she was or who Lwaxana Troi was (not much of a Trek fan back then), she was really sweet to me.
