Neither Robot Chicken: Star Wars or Family Guy: Blue Harvest picked up Creative Arts Emmys yesterday, losing out to The Simpsons and South Park, respectively. And Carrie Fisher, who was up for her 30 Rock guest spot, lost out to some chick from Desperate Housewives. On the whole, it wasn’t a great night for genre, but Battlestar Galactica did pick up Special Visual Effects for a series.
Online Serenity comic from Dark Horse
Not sure how this one slipped under the radar, other than the fact that we were too busy re-watching Dr. Horrible… Last month’s Myspace Dark Horse Presents included a Serenity comic one-shot, entitled “The Other Half”. Once again, Mal learns that jobs are never as simple as they are supposed to be. Check it out at Issue 13 of Myspace Dark Horse Presents
Out this week: TFU, O66, KOTOR
Stuff is sure to blow up real good in Tuesday’s releases. First off is the much-hyped game that has been impossible to avoid lately, The Force Unleashed. You can even pick it up tonight if the mood strikes. For those who prefer their ass-kicking without the baggage of required hardware, tomorrow also sees the release of the fourth and final Republic Commando novel, Order 66.
Meanwhile, comic fans can expect Knights of the Old Republic #33 on Wednesday.
Cunningham gives Blood Oath time period, hints
We may not have an official announcement, but thanks to a post on Elaine Cunningham’s blog we do now have a few more ideas of what to expect from Blood Oath! First off all, it’s post-LOTF, set in the “early days” of the Fate of the Jedi. However:
Blood Oath is a self-contained story, rather than an episode within a larger tale. While both have their place, I’m very pleased to have the opportunity to tell a largely self-contained story.
I wonder if this only the first of several paperback tie-ins to the main series? Shades of the original plan for the NJO, perhaps? Intriguing!
RDK and Vander Ark to appeal Lexicon case
Some people just don’t know when they’re beat. But I suspect it’s going to take one hell of a revision to make the thing publishable. (via)
The Force Unleashed reviews appearing
The game isn’t out until Tuesday, but the media are already unleashing their reviews. Wired’s game blogger is less than impressed; IGN is mixed, but give it a decent score. Also: The New York Daily News, The Birmingham News’ TechCetera blog, PocketGamer, Blunt Magazine.
ETA: The TFN/Rebelscum review.
George Takei Prospers
Congratulations go out to George Takei and his long-time partner Brad Altman who got married in California on Sunday.
A long-time staple of the sci-fi community, George has been a civil rights activist for many years.
Former Trek castmates Walter Koenig and Nichelle Nichols served as their witnesses.
The fandom minute: Tina Fey’s endorsement, bento boxes, Yoda’s a (badass) geek
- TV: Tina Fey was spotted wearing a Leia ’08 t-shirt on Saturday Night Live’s season premiere this weekend. On that note, io9’s list of SNL’s best sci-fi sketches contains bonus Mark Hamill.
- Food: Star Wars bento boxes? Wacky!
- List: Yoda (though not in cake form) is one of Great White Snark’s top five unexpectedly bad-ass geek heroes.
The latest in The Clone Wars
ENI has some new screencaps from the tv series (presumably from the first two episodes, since we know the press kits are out and about;) Entertainment Weekly’s Jeff Jenson defends The Clone Wars. (Are there any prequel fans dead from shock yet?)
Upcoming releases: Fun with street dates
I’ve been doing a bit of work on our book release schedule over the last few days, adding all all the recently announced and (hopefully) soon-to-be announced-because-they’re-in-the-catalog books. But there’s always more going on…
- Zee Zee noticed that the The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia has been pushed back a few weeks from November 18 to December 9. At least it’s still in time for Christmas?
- And the (US?) paperback of Order 66 has been set for May 19, 2009; UK readers may note some funny business – the book isn’t coming out in hardcover there at all, and will be instead released as a paperback on October 2, 2008.
