Gate Geek – Stargate Universe Casting Call

Good news!  They’re casting Stargate Universe.  (Well, it’s presumed to be a true casting call sheet.  Still not confirmed.)

Apparently they’re only looking for one “star name” for the upcoming series Stargate Universe.  The rest is open for hot, good-lookin’ people who might reasonably be able to convince folks that they’re very smart.

Dust off those head shots, boys and girls.  You too might be the next big draw at a sci-fi convention!

Struzan talks about his poster art with Time

Star Wars Special Edition posters by Drew Struzan

Drew Struzan’s greatest hits, with commentary from the artist himself (including the Special Editions, above) in Time:

While they fit together perfectly in a triptych, they were never painted side by side. I basically had a week to finish each. I put a black border around each one and had everything breaking out of the frame to make it look grander than it actually was. George liked it so much that he wanted the rest of the Star Wars posters to match that. So, on Episode I, and II, and III, I repeated that concept. George has a wonderful screening room at Skywalker Ranch, and there’s this big wall with all six paintings lined up in order. It’s one big movie.

New Hitchhiker novel to come

Hyperion books is announcing today a new novel in the beloved Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy series.  The new novel is to be written by the author of the Artemis Fowl series, Eoin Colfer.  The title of the new book is And Another Thing… The project is endorsed by Adams’ widow, Jane Belson.

The new book is scheduled for release in October of 2009, so we have a year of debate ahead of us if this is a good idea or not.

Matthew Stover is a classy dude

When asked for his take on the Expanded Universe’s use of the themes he introduced in Traitor, this is what he had to say.

…due to my privileged position as a Star Wars novelist, my opinion would be given more weight by the fans than it actually deserves — it would tend to tip the perceptions of, at least, my particular fans, and even others would be tempted to end arguments with “Well, Matt Stover says . . .” I’ve decided I just have to keep it to myself.

Yes, some fans will angst at not having that clarification/ammunition, but hats off to you, Mr. Stover.

Poll: Fate of the Jedi and you

Our latest poll is about the big post-LOTF series that was (finally!) annouced last week, Fate of the Jedi. Featuring authors Aaron Allston, Christie Golden, and Troy Denning, FOTJ will be the first major Star Wars series to come out entirely in hardcover since Zahn’s Thrawn trilogy back in the early 90’s. The first book, Allston’s Outcast, is due next spring. Will you be reading? Vote on the sidebar or under the cut. Continue reading “Poll: Fate of the Jedi and you”

A new author reveals himself: Paul S. Kemp

On his Livejournal, Forgotten Realms author Paul S. Kemp has revealed that he too will be writing an upcoming (2010) Star Wars novel:

The novel, currently untitled, will be a standalone, occurs after the events of the Legacy of the Force series, and will feature a Jedi who has been mentioned by name only a handful of times in previous Star Wars novels, and who has (as far as I know) never been developed at all (I tried very hard to convince the Del Rey editors to allow me to use a previously unused character, and they were gracious in that regard; the story is also entirely of my own creation, so that’s pretty cool, too).
