In the category of video you must watch in order to maintain your geek cred, check out this set of seven videos comprising some of the most unusual renditions of the theme songs from Super Mario Brothers. From a carbonite desk to an Imperial throne
Tom Spina Designs, the company responsible for the Han in Carbonite desk the internet went batty for back in February, has revealed a ‘Galactic Throne.’ One of five could be yours for only $5499.99, but at least they include shipping. (via)
Check the shelves for Windham’s Obi-Wan bio!
Scholastic doesn’t bother with strict street-dating like Del Rey does, so it’s not too much of a shock that Ryder Windham’s The Life and Legend of Obi-Wan Kenobi has been spotted in stores (and Amazon is shipping it) despite being an ‘October’ release. Which in book time means September, but what the hell – we’re almost there.
StarWars.com confirms new DVD releases
Yes, the new DVD sets that first appeared on Digital Bits are indeed just the ones we already have, in handy box-set form. They’ll be in stores November 4th.
What’s it like releasing a Star Wars novel?
Sean Williams shares. And it looks like we’ll be seeing his novelization of The Force Unleashed on a certain newspaper’s bestseller list soon…
And he comes across as so sincere that I’ll even refrain from snarking on the Darksaber comment. (More or less.)
Do we need a Star Wars break?
As a followup to Star Wars Must Die, SF Signal gathered a number of science fiction pros and fans to ask if it really is time for Star Wars to go on hiatus?
This is a question that’s weighed on my mind on and off through the year, as I obligatorily blogged the two big Star Wars events that utterly fail to grab my personal interest. The Clone Wars? Meh both before and after. The Force Unleashed? Not even remotely tempted. It even came up in regards to the Expanded Universe during our Legacy of the Force discussion at JadeCon. Does the franchise need a break? Do we? Continue reading “Do we need a Star Wars break?”

- Food: Han in Carbonite… The cake! Is that icing nontoxic? (via)
- The blogside: SF Signal’s JP Frantz claims that Star Wars needs to take a break to save the future of the franchise, and I’m not sure I entirely disagree… Meanwhile, Time’s Matt Selman calls for an end to easy Star Wars parodies.
- Collecting: Pete Vilmur looks at saving ticket stubs.
- Space: The European Space Agency takes inspiration from Star Wars for a new spacecraft. It looks like it would fit right in with the Rebel fleet! (via)
- Lists: The prequel trilogy gets a spot on io9’s worst fake accents of science fiction; Return of the Jedi is one of Cracked’s six most depressing happy endings.
- Random: Going through life with the last name of Yoda.
Well, that’s one way to stand out in a crowd of Mandos
Dr. Horrible and Captain Hammer Meet the 80’s
Once upon a time, in a decade called the 80’s, little girls played with little plastic ponies. Except me, but that is because I wanted GI Joes and Transformers and Star Wars toys. I cringed at typical “little girl” toys and had absolutely no interest in My Little Pony at all.
Until now. How can you resist Dr. Horrible and Captain Hammer? The prancing pony on the top of the car for Captain Hammer is absolutely perfect in my opinion and if I could, would be proud to add them to my desk collection. Check out the detail on his cargo pants!
Fandom never ceases to amaze me in it’s ingenuity and creativity. Just one question: where are Penny and the frozen yogurt to make this set complete?
Star Wars ladies who won’t hesitate to kick your ass
Bettie Magazine counts down nine badass Star Wars women, including several from the Expanded Universe. It’s not particularly hard to guess who rightfully takes the top spot. (via)
