Finding Sanctuary on SciFi

The best part about shows with names like this is that you can make horribly annoying subject lines for quite a while with them.

At any rate, the first trailer is up for Sanctuary. This was the first attempt to sell a series strictly online and using fan interaction to help shape the story. Sadly, they just couldn’t make the model work financially. But it was enough to get SciFi to notice and pick them up as a series. So it can’t all be bad.

Series star and producer Amanda Tapping (formerly of the Stargate franchise) catches everyone up on what’s been happening with the show. A nice interview for those who watched it and those who are thinking about it.

New cover, content list for Luke Skywalker omnibus

COVER: Luke Skywalker, Last Hope for the GalaxyOn the Dark Horse boards, Randy Stradley shares a new cover (by Adam Hughes) and the content list for Luke Skywalker: Last Hope for the Galaxy. It’s a pretty nice selection, and looks to include some of Marvel’s Shira Brie/Lumiya arc and a bit from Dark Horse’s only NJO-era comic, the Chewbacca mini-series. See the full list under the cut. Eye candy: Everyone loves concept art!

You guys clearly love concept art as much as I do – this was one of the weekend’s most read posts and most clicked links. That may be damning with faint praise – posting and hits are both pretty sparse over weekends – but clearly plenty of readers made an impression on io9 because yesterday they had a huge multiple-gallery concept art post featuring some of the hottest visual designers Hollywood has to offer, including Ryan Church, whose work you’re probably already familiar with. I can’t think of a better way to waste your morning on the computer.

Upcoming releases: Street date shuffle

IMAGE: The Essential AtlasOver at RandomHouse.com, there’s a new release date for Dan Wallace and Jason Fry’s The Essential Atlas – February 25, 2009. (It was previously in for this September.) On the plus side, we learn that it will total 256 pages, just a tad heftier than Wallace’s New Essential Chronology.

In a less dramatic move, the Death Star paperback jumped forward two weeks to a November 25 release… Our book release schedule has been updated thusly.

Fans in the news: Ernie Cline, 501st

  • We haven’t heard much from the Fanboys camp lately, but UGO talks to the film’s co-writer, Ernie Cline. He has good news, though – director Kyle Newman is back on board, and his cut is the one that will be released later this year.
  • The Pioneer Press features Minnesota droidmaker and costumer Michael Hansen and pals.
  • And there’s more 501st action over at The Lake Oswego Review, which covered a Make-A-Wish event in Oregon, where Darth Vader gifted Owen Miller, a young boy with cancer, with his own stormtrooper armor and lightsaber.

Potter “prequel” nets £25,000

JK Rowling’s short story for charity raised £25,000 (that’s about $50,000) at an auction held at the Waterstone’s bookshop in Piccadilly, London. Not bad for 800 words. You can watch a BBC reporter read part of the story here.

The stories by JKR and the other authors who participated will be available starting June 11 at the Waterstone’s website. A print version of the stories will be for sale on August 7 from Waterstone’s.

Another familiar voice coming to The Clone Wars

THE CLONE WARS: Dooku and palsGalactic-Voyage spotted an exchange on the forums of Christopher Lee’s official site that confirms the actor is providing the voice of Dooku for the movie.

The site’s administrator, Juan Aneiros, had this to say:

Mr. Lee has recorded the voice of Count Dooku for this movie a couple of months ago.

It was however, the first time he had to lip synch to a character because they had produced the animation before recording his voice.
