Gizmodo unboxes the new Lego Millennium Falcon, geeking all the way. (Warning: Tongue.) Looks like a time-lapse of the construction is coming, too…
Unlikely news of the day: Fisher in the EU?
Carrie Fisher Star Wars novel or Amazon glitch? Sorry TFN, but I’m voting for glitch… Probably something to do with that Star Wars memoir she’s writing – note that Simon and Schuster published Fisher’s Postcards from the Edge and The Best Awful.
UPDATE: Sue Rostoni says S&S is not the new contract holder, so it’s not a Star Wars novel.
Next for Jude Watson
After Jedi Apprentice came Jedi Quest. But what’s next for Jude Watson?
Scholastic announced a new kids’ series today. The 39 Clues is a series that will mix books, collectible cards, and online gaming. It’s all supposed to fit together like a giant puzzle.
The New York Times says this is Scholastic’s bid to follow up on their success as the U.S. publishers of Harry Potter. The books will be written by different authors (sound familiar, EU fans?) and Jude Watson is signed to write the fourth book, due out in July 2009.
Jackson to produce The Hobbit!
No, this is not April Fools! Peter Jackson and New Line Cinema have kissed and made up.
:::doing the happy Jedi–er– Hobbit dance!:::
Gate Geek – Videos and Treks
Catching up on life in Gate circles, here are a few tidbits to enjoy:
– Dr. Keller’s romantic life – A video in which Jewel Staite confirms that there’s just a wee bit of stuff going on between Keller and Ronon in the second half of the season. (It’s a hard life to be an actress.)
– Jewel makes another video appearance on SciFi with the release of Part 2 of her fan Q&A. A little stuff for the Firefly fans in there, as well.
– And after being snubbed for the role of Scotty in the upcoming Star Trek film, it appears that Paul McGillion (Dr. Beckett) actually ended up getting a small role. I’m sure it had a lot to do with his skills as an actor, but probably just a wee bit to do with the outrage caused by his snub. Either way, congratulations to Paul! (via)
– An actual quote from Paul regarding Star Trek, as well as the bootleg promotional video from SciFi teasing his return in Season 4.
Space western holiday specials
It’s not the holidays without various television show holiday specials, and here’s a very special list of sci-fi / space western holiday specials. Whether it’s the Star Wars holiday special or Quark getting a visit from the Bajoran Prophet of Christmas Past or Jewel Staite as a Sugar Plum Fairy, there’s something for everyone on your list.
Who needs Geonosians?
Uh-oh… It appears the galaxy is perfectly capable of creating superweapons all on its own.
Slayers on strike
LAist (via Slacktivist) has photos from Mutant Enemy Day on the Writers Guild picket lines. Joss Whedon, Mutant Enemy employees, actors from Whedon’s shows and fans from around the world turned up in L.A. on December 7 to show their support for the striking writers.
Meanwhile, the Writers Guild has denied requests for waivers from producers of the Golden Globes and Oscars.
The strike is in its seventh week with no end in sight.
2007: Sith! Clones! Sex! Death! Cake!
Star Wars Addiction’s Top 10 Star Wars events of 2007. I’m not quite sure I agree with the ordering: No way can I buy Death Star being as high as it is when no one I know actually read it. (Seriously, we threw a chat and no one came!) but it’s an interesting look back at the year.
Perhaps we need a CJ version? Ponder on this I will…
Out this week
WOTC’s first expansion for the latest incarnation of the RPG, Starships of the Galaxy, ought to be making its first appearance on Tuesday. I don’t quite get the appeal myself, but it seems to be making quite a splash in some areas of EU fandom.
Meanwhile, Wednesday will bring comic fans Clone Wars Adventures Volume 10 and Dark Times #7.
