Teaser: Star Trek Into Darkness

Yeah, it took me a few seconds to realize that it isn’t Patrick Stewart monologuing the voiceover, too. (Doesn’t sound like Benedict Cumberbatch, either… Does it?)

There’s a Japanese version with just a tad more footage at the end that you might find evocative of one of the older films…

Another ‘teaser’ trailer will apparently be coming along on the 17th, because that’s just how the industry rolls these days. (Sigh)

Her Universe gearing up for Cyber Monday with Darth Vader pajamas, new tees

Her Universe has revealed their Cyber Monday exclusives! Above, a set of Darth Vader pajamas featuring artwork from Her Universe favorite Katie Cook. “Everyone knows I love creating designs for Her Universe,” Cook said. “I jumped at the chance to combine two of my favorite things: Star Wars and pajamas.” Tops and bottoms will be sold separately – the tops aren’t on the site yet, but the bottoms go up to 3X.

The Star Wars shirt with Japanese symbols is a new Misses cut that is “is flattering to the female figure” – it’s the same cut as the plus-size Mara shirts from Celebration, and is available in sizes up to 2X. The BSG crew neck sweatshirt might also appeal to those looking for a looser cut – it’s available in sizes up to XL. There are also new Star Trek and two new Doctor Who tees!

Her Universe is producing their first Star Trek jewelery for the holiday – these earrings feature the Vulcan hand sign in the communicator seal. And this year’s holiday pin features Chewbacca and comes in a case signed by Ashley Eckstein. A thousand have been produced and will be going out free with every order while supplies last.

Also free this year? U.S. Ground shipping! All the new Cyber Monday products will go on sale November 26.

Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back of fan bases?

Or is it Attack of the Clones? Well, I suppose that depends on your certain point of view…

Earlier this week, Vulture posted a massive list of what they’re calling the most influential fan bases, and Star Wars came in number 2 – pretty good, all things considered. Occupying the #1 spot is Game of Thrones, which I can’t really be all that bitter about seeing as they’re peaking right now. (And, well, I’m a fan, if not technically in the fandom.)

It’s an interesting series, but one major qualm with the Star Wars listing: Warsies? Dude, no one with an actual clue uses that term. It’s not even a Trekker/Trekkie situation: No one uses it.

The Harry Potter, Doctor Who, Star Trek, Joss Whedon and Lord of the Rings fandoms also made the list. It’s all part of a week-long series, which also covers things like naming your fandom (don’t,) psychology and the crazy shit fans buy.

They’ve also profiled several influential fans, including the Leaky Cauldron’s Melissa Anelli, The One Ring’s Erica Challis and TFN’s Dustin Roberts.

Ashley Eckstein reveals Her Universe releases for Halloween, Cyber Monday on Tosche Station Radio

The Clone Wars actress and Her Universe founder Ashley Eckstein was a guest on Tosche Station Radio last night, where she answered fan questions and revealed a few upcoming products, including a new Halloween bag from Katie Cook (pictured, last year’s,) more Star Wars pajamas, a Spock costume top, and extended sizes for the Ahsoka Tano costume top. They’ll also be coming out with a Tardis dress exclusively for Hot Topic.

J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek 2 is now Star Trek Into Darkness

The sequel to J. J. Abrams’ 2009 Star Trek now has an officially announced title: Star Trek Into Darkness. Shouldn’t there be a colon or something there?

The title popped up as a rumor before the weekend, but now Paramount has confirmed it. First Showing is willing to give the lack of a punctuation mark the benefit of the doubt, while Hollywood.com examines the trend of “dark” movie titles recently.

Star Trek Into Darkness is scheduled to come out on May 17, 2013, adding Benedict Cumberbatch to the cast as a villain. Still no word if Lens Flare gets a higher billing than the Sherlock star.

46 years of boldly going: Happy Birthday, Star Trek!

Star Trek is 46 today: ‘The Man Trap,’ debuted September 8, 1966 on NBC. We here at CJ have a lot of love for Trek – in fact, being raised by casual sci-fi fans, I hazard to say it was more a part of my childhood than Star Wars was, by virtue of actually being on TV.

Google celebrated the series by debuting an interactive Google Doodle yesterday. Tor.com has an interesting look back at turning points in the franchise’s history, while Hero Complex talks to Michael Dorn about The Next Generation, which turns 25 this month. And, from earlier in the week, io9 has 8 ways judges have cited Trek from the bench.

Looking forward, Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto have been dropping hints about the franchise’s next installment, the still-untitled (or is it?) sequel to 2009’s Star Trek.

What’s your favorite Trek memory or moment? I remain partial to the one with the whales, myself.

Couple merges Star Wars, Trek in wedding

Katie and Matt combined Star Wars and Star Trek for their wedding earlier this month. When Geeks Wed writes:

The couples’ Klingon wedding ceremony officiated by “Jean Luc Picard” had a Star Wars twist and continued on into their geeky reception. During a Klingon wedding, the groom’s Tawi’Yan presents the couple with bat’leths (or in this case lightsabers) to mock battle each other representing the struggle of the male and female Klingon hearts against one another. After the couple recites their vows (swearing to unite against all their opponents) their guests attack them.

The reception featured Star Wars ships and a Han/Leia cake topper, as well as some Star Trek and Doctor Who guests . More details and pics at the link! (via)
