Lucasfilm has finally confirmed that the rumors are true: The full-length trailer for The Force Awakens will debut during halftime on Monday night’s NFL game.
Tickets will go on sale “everywhere” following the trailer launch. Also confirmed is the Star Wars Marathon Event, aka the seven-movie marathon, at select theaters.
Lucasfilm says that Disney is “providing unprecedented company-wide on-air and social support” and “tying in events and special activities for the day of the trailer release.” Something – perhaps a trailer tease – is expected during Good Morning America tomorrow.
Or, they’ve already dropped one:

Due to pregame demand, the Toledo Mud Hens are allowing fans to order replicas of the Chewbacca jerseys they’ll be wearing this weekend for $79.95. You don’t even have to go to Toledo – you can pre-order one online, but there are only so many so act fast.
Game-worn player jerseys will be part of a silent auction over the weekend games. The auction proceeds will go to Read for Literacy and the Spina Bifida Association of Northwest Ohio.
The Toledo Mud Hens, the minor league team affiliated with the Detroit Tigers, will be rocking these Chewbacca-inspired uniforms – click the thumbnail at right to see the whole thing – this coming weekend as part of their May the 4th/Revenge of the 5th activities. No word if the Wookiee jerseys will be available to the public, but they will be selling some Star Wars themed t-shirts.
With a video from Darth Vader, the official site launches their version of the annual NCAA hoops tournament. Entitled “This Is Madness”, the system will pair up characters in daily online votes, with the winners from the light side bracket facing the winner of the dark side bracket on April 9. Check out the video from the Dark Lord and get the full bracket information for the champion of fan favorite characters.
The first vote starts on March 18, with Han Solo going head to head against Lando Calrissian on the light side, and Darth Vader paired against
Gonzaga General Grievous. Characters from the entire saga, from Wedge and Wicket to Mace Windu and Darth Maul to Ahsoka Tano and Hondo Ohnaka fill out the brackets. Amazingly, the pool is 1/8 female, which just slightly beats out representation by droids. Mashable predicts a Han Solo vs. Darth Vader showdown in the final.
In the video, Darth Vader describes how the game works, and then pitching for himself, with “As much as I hate democracy, vote now, vote often, and vote Vader” so he can beat both Obi-Wan and the Emperor. Personally, I’d like to put this concept in a head to head match-up with deciding to strike down The Clone Wars and Detours for “awesomest” announcement of the week.
Someone believes Death Stars are real, the men behind Jar Jar and Gollum meet, we figured out a way to save the Super Bowl and #StarWarsSpinoffs took off. Eat your heart out, Yoda.
Director Bobby Razak, who’s well known in the world of action sports, is turning his focus to Amanda Lucas and her MAA career with an upcoming documentary Featuring interviews with both Amanda and her father, the doc will “cover several years of Amanda’s life with a major focus on her entry into the women’s MMA circuit.”
A British newspaper is reporting that a 40-foot He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named and Mary Poppins – among other noted characters of British literature – will be featured in the Opening Ceremonies of the London Olympics on Friday. The Sunday Times writes:
About 30 actors each depicting Mary Poppins, the magical English nanny played by Julie Andrews in the 1964 Disney film, will descend from the roof of the stadium on wires and “float” to the ground with their opened umbrellas. The nightmare will be banished and happiness restored. “It’s a jaw-dropping sequence,” said one source.
If this is true, it’s going to be completely batshit. I hope it’s true.
The first is labeled ESPN Fantasy Draft and features some funny (probably funnier if you have any idea who the non-Star Wars guys in it are.) The next two, Every Moment and Vader Fan are standard clip shows from the movies and extras. Enjoy them under the cut. Continue reading “Three new Star Wars Blu-ray commercials”
