Star Wars with occasional sarcasm
The Last Jedi and Rebels were both winners at last night’s Saturn Awards. Mark Hamill won Best Actor, with Rian Johnson winning Best Writing and Bob Ducsay taking Best Editing. Star Wars Rebels was named Best Animated TV Series.
Black Panther was the night’s biggest winner, with five awards, including Best Comic-to-Film, Best Director, and Best Supporting Actress for Danai Gurira.
Rian Johnson and (eventually) Mark Hamill showed up at SXSW for The Director and the Jedi, and you can watch their Q&A, or check out The Hollywood Reporter’s article, which highlights my favorite Rian Johnson quote re: Luke. (The post-screening Q&A is this way.)

Star Wars won four categories at the 2017 Saturn Awards. Rogue One took Best Science Fiction Film as well as Visual Effects, and Gareth Edwards took Best Direction. Star Wars Rebels was named Best Animated Series.
The nominations for the 35th Annual Saturn Awards are out, with Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull scoring five nominations, including Best Science Fiction Film and nods for both Harrison Ford and Shia LeBouf. The Clone Wars also picked up two nominations, one for Best Animated Movie and another for Best Syndicated/Cable series.
The Saturns are presented by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films to honor genre film and tv, so pretty much everything of note has a nod. The Dark Knight leads with 11 total. Expect to hear about the winners in June.
Awards season continues with the announcement of awards that geeks can get behind: the Saturn Award nominations. (Although does anyone find their definition of just what is in the sci-fi, fantasy or horror genres just a wee bit broad?)
Forget the Oscars. What geeks truly want to know is what will win the Saturn, given out by The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films.
The Academy webmaster is apparently still sleeping it off, but the SciFi Wire has you covered with all the up, up and away winners. (Can you tell that Superman Returns did very well, this year?)
Revenge of the Sith did well at the Saturn Awards – Best Science Fiction Film and Best Music. Battlefront II won the Best Science Fiction Video Game Release.
Batman Begins won Best Fantasy Film, and Lost and Battlestar Galactica both won for Best TV series in their respective catagories. Christian Bale, Matthew Fox, James Callis, Katee Sackhoff and Serenity’s Summer Glau all took home actor awards.
Revenge of the Sith has received 10 Saturn nominations from The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror. Sith is up for Best Science Fiction Film and Special Effects, along with writing and directing nods for George Lucas and several acting and technical awards.
