How Laura Dern’s Admiral Holdo shakes up the Resistance

Laura Dern and Oscar Isaac weigh in on Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo’s role in The Last Jedi, and how even her look plays into it:

“I think it’s beautifully subversive,” Dern says of Holdo’s military glamour. “From the director to the producers, everyone was painstaking about not only the look, but even the exact color of hair, what it should be and trying different versions. And all I know is I think it’s so cool. I love the way she looks. I want to be Holdo for Halloween.”

The Last Jedi is EW’s latest cover story

Entertainment Weekly is back with their latests news dump for The Last Jedi. The cover reveal story sheds some light on Laura Dern’s Amilyn Holdo and her role in the Resistance; The obligatory gallery features several new quotes and photos.

Mark Hamill and Rian Johnson discuss Luke’s return to the Millenium Falcon.

On Kylo Ren and Rey, and where that dynamic is going. (Plus some interesting stuff on why Ben might have turned.)

Coming up tomorrow: Laura Dern, Kelly Marie Tran, and crystal foxes.

Today in The Last Jedi: Who’s ready to jump in an X-wing and blow stuff up?

New footage spotted! A brief look at Kelly Marie Tran’s Rose Tico in action is a highlight of a spot for EDF Energy (okay…), while General Organa and Poe have a great exchange in a new commercial. (Another recent spot features new Finn footage!)

There’s also a great profile of Tran at Buzzfeed which is definitely worth a read. She talks about her background, Harry Potter, and Carrie Fisher in the gym. She teases that Rose has “has an interesting relationship with war.” She’s also one of The Hollywood Reporter’s Next Gen Talent picks.

There were also two big image reveals today: A new picture of Laura Dern as Amilyn Holdo came as part of a quick profile in Elle, and the IMAX poster in USA Today.

Oscar Isaac: Carrie Fisher got “pretty intense” filming scene for The Last Jedi

Oscar Isaac shared a bit about filming The Last Jedi with Carrie Fisher.

“It was basically my first day [on set] and we did about 25 takes total. Half of them were on me and half of them were on her,” Isaac, who plays the pilot Poe Dameron in the new “Star Wars” trilogy films, said. “I can’t give anything away but there was a scene where there was some physicality there and it was shot just over and over and over. She relished the physicality of it, let me just say. It was pretty intense. It will be funny to see what they cut together based on that.”

Isaac’s The Passage opens Friday; The Last Jedi is due December 15.
