Maisie Richardson-Sellers admits she’s in The Force Awakens

Maisie-Richardson-Sellers2Maisie Richardson-Sellers was one of the first actresses whose name we heard connected with Episode VII, and although she was never confirmed by Lucasfilm, she’s now at least allowed to admit she’s in the movie. She tells Refinery29 that Star Wars was her first screen acting job:

It is really strange, but it’s also fantastic. I’d always done theater, and his was my first screen experience. I couldn’t have asked for a better team to introduce me to the world of screen acting.

On Star Wars in general:

I grew up watching them and I’ve always been fascinated about how they use the epic nature of the story — but also make it really personal. It has tender relationships, and it’s funny and quirky. I feel it’s really well-rounded and that’s why it’s so popular; it’s so accessible for so many generations and backgrounds. Even though it’s such a surreal story, it feels very true. All the relationships are very true. It breaks down the age old story of good versus evil in a very accessible manner.

On keeping secrets:

I had to sign many, many contracts. It’s very, very secret. But, everyone who’s working on it loves and respects the franchise so much, they all want to keep it a secret. We wanted to hold it tight, so it wasn’t hard for anyone. It wasn’t a forced thing; it’s our little child which we’re going to present to the world in a year.

She’s also appeared on CW’s The Originals.

Today in Episode VII: More release date shenanigans

STAR WARS RUMORS: Take seriously at your own risk.→ Friday means Da7e’s Star Wars column over at Latino Review, and while he mostly unpacks the rumors from earlier this week, the real meat here? Is that despite Kathleen Kennedy and J.J. Abrams really wanting to move the film back to May 4, Bob Iger isn’t letting them do it, no matter what’s going on with Harrison Ford’s extremities. Lots of doom-and-gloom going on here, so please remember that rumors are rumors and don’t let yourself go into full Threepio panic mode over them.

/Film’s Germain Lussier on why Iger would be so firm on the December date. In short: MONEY. Naturally.

→ In the ‘well, yeah’ department, Latino Review is also saying that Carrie Fisher’s daughter Billie Lourd will be in the movie. We had plenty of friends-and-family cameos throughout the prequels (all the Lucas kids, Nathan Hamill, Sofia Coppola, etc.) so naturally we’ll probably see some in this round as well. And then, of course, there’s this tweet, which also names Maisie Richardson Sellers. Abe Gurko is, depending on who you listen to, Carrie Fisher’s current or former assistant.

→ Only a matter of hours left to donate to A Force for Change if you want a chance at lunch with J.J. Abrams.

Rumor: TWO more young women to be cast for Episode VII?

Buried under some ‘Han Solo is going to die’ blah blah blah, Latino Review claims that additional Episode VII roles may go not only go to the previously-rumored Maisie Richardson-Sellers, but also to another young British actress, Katie Jarvis. Two more women is one more than we were expecting, so that’s hopeful.

They also say Adam Driver is definitely not Solo offspring and that John Boyega and stormtrooper armor are headed for Abu Dhabi. Or maybe Orlando.

Rumor: Oxford-educated actress up for Episode VII role

Maisie Richardson-SellersLast night, The Hollywood Reporter claimed that Maisie Richardson-Sellers, a young Oxford-educated actress, is “in line to nab an undisclosed and possibly major role” in Episode VII.

THR believes that role may be the one described (according to them in January) as a descendent of Obi-wan Kenobi, a report that was met with some skepticism.

Richardson-Sellers recently starred in the play They Will Be Red at the Burton Taylor Studio Theatre.
