Only Karens for five-book The Clone Wars series

In the light of yesterday’s press release, Karen Miller spills a few more beans at her livejournal:

The Sekrit Projekt is a Star Wars novel. I’ll be doing 2. They’re both set in the Clone Wars era, and connected to the new animated series that’s coming out soon. It’s a 5-book series in total, and the super spectacular Karen Traviss will be writing the other 3. I’m so lucky to be working with her. It’s a bit of a cosmic trip, this, no pun intended. I think I’d be a lost cause if I didn’t have her to guide my tottering footsteps.

Gotta tell you, I am having waaaaay too much fun.

Finally: The Clone Wars book announcement

With a month and a day to the first street date, LucasBooks and Del Rey have issued the press release, and now we know that five novels are coming! Karen Traviss and Karen Miller are the only authors named: no word on who, if anyone, will be joining them, or if the books are actual novelizations or side-stories… Though the plot description sounds familiar enough. In any case, we’re certain to get a lot more background on the Clone Wars.

Poll: Legacy of the Force: Revelation

IMAGE: LOTF Revelation pie chartLast week, we asked what you thought of the latest Legacy of the Force book, Karen Traviss’ Revelation. And it turns out most of you… Haven’t read it yet! Shocking.

Out of 112 voters total, 34 of you haven’t read it yet and 26 have no plans to read it. Of those who did, another 26 loved it, 16 thought it was okay, and 5 each went for ‘Meh’ and ‘Didn’t like it.’ The percentages don’t quite add up to 100%, but polls are weird that way.

In other Revelation news, it hit #1 on the New York Times and Publisher’s Weekly mass-market bestseller lists. It’s not totally unprecedented (Fury was #3) but I suspect part of this is that it’s simply not the season for a lot of big releases yet. (Or, Boba Fett fans: Go figure.) We’ll see how Invincible does in May.

Our new sidebar poll, inspired by the season finale of Stargate: Atlantis, is about time travel. It expires next Saturday at midnight. (I promise – no pie charts.)

Sue Rostoni has ‘no comment’ on mystery books: Idle speculation on the new contract

Not the most surprising comment in the world, but hey, at least it’s something:

I can’t comment on this yet because the contract (a different one than the “main” contract) has not yet been signed. And “first announcements” will appear on starwars.com first, so if you haven’t read it from the main site, I can’t comment on it here.

As for ongoing contract issue that she also addresses, it should be noted that both books are listed as Del Rey releases on Amazon and also appear on RandomHouse.com (with the Del Rey logo) just like all the currently announced upcoming books. Would LFL pursue a secondary contract with Del Rey if they weren’t planning on renewing the main one? (And for that matter, why is Del Rey adding them to the catalog if the contract isn’t signed? Solicitation requirements?)

We have had dual book contracts before (Del Rey/Bantam in the 90’s) but I’m not really inclined to believe that LFL would go back in that direction.
