catalyst700USA Today has our first excerpt of the Rogue One tie-in novel Catalyst. The article also contains a few insights from Pablo Hidalgo about the inspirations Lucasfilm drew from for the film. Here’s one:

“It’s no accident that we’ve taken a look at the Manhattan project and what was happening at Los Alamos laboratories during the tail end of World War II. Being able to look at that kind of thing through history and then apply the Star Wars filter to it is really fascinating.”

I do find it interesting that Lyra seems to be a viewpoint character… Here’s hoping she gets more to do throughout the novel.

Catalyst, by James Luceno (Tarkin) is out in hardcover and ebook on November 15 from Del Rey.

Second excerpt from Aftermath: Life Debt features pregnant Leia, the Force

aftermath-life-debtMashable has our second excerpt from Chuck Wendig’s Aftermath: Life Debt, featuring a pregnant Leia Organa trying to commune with the Force.

We already knew Han Solo and Chewbacca played a part in the book – in addition to the title and the Millennium Falcon on the cover, they show up in the first excerpt – but this is our first look at Leia in the time period immediately following Return of the Jedi.

On Twitter, Wendig confirms that the Leia chapter isn’t an interlude, and that it is missing some formatting.

(Dare I hope that Ben is born here and we learn if his last name is Solo or Organa? Not to mention why his name is Ben? But, as Wendig says, we must manage our expectations.)

Aftermath: Life Debt will be out in hardcover and eBook on July 19.

han-solo-rotjEntertainment Weekly has our first look at an excerpt from Chuck Wendig’s upcoming Aftermath: Life Debt. The book, first of two sequels to last year’s Aftermath, adds Han Solo, Chewbacca and Kashyyyk to the mix.

Aftermath introduced a number of brand-new characters, including Temmin Wexley, who as an adult appears in The Force Awakens played by Greg Grunberg.

Aftermath: Life Debt will be out in hardcover and eBook on July 19. The third book in the trilogy, Empire’s End, is due in January 2017.
