Out this week: Carrie Fisher, Rebel Force

Although some got it early, including our own Paula, today is the day you can be sure to find Carrie Fisher’s Wishful Drinking in stores.

Also in the realm of inconsistent/nonexistent street dating, I’ve been seeing reports that the first two Rebel Force books, Target and Hostage, (or is it Uprising?) have been spotted, and sure enough even Diamond is listing them. (No comics, alas.) This is the first juvie series to take a crack at the OT era since way back in the EU bronze age, and at worst we can hope for something far less headache-inducing.

  1. HATED the whole Jedi Prince thing. *twitch*

There was also the Galaxy of Fear series…those were set in the OT era, if I remember correctly. Han, Luke and Leia passed through it with cameos, as did Fett and a younger Thrawn. It’s been awhile since I’ve read them, but I thought they were pretty decent.

  2. I read the first two books in Rebel Force — they were at Barnes and Noble late last week. They are much better than the Jedi Prince series, but there are some cringe-worthy scenes and connections to the films and other EU titles. Still, both were quick and pretty fun.

  3. Ahh, I tend to forget about Galaxy of Fear. As far as I’m concerned, none of the juvie/YA stuff is notable until the Jude Watson era, and that’s only because of the many CJers who rave about that first series. (The less said on YJK/JJK the better.)

  4. No, Galaxy of Fear isn’t really notable, but wasn’t bad either. Watson’s JA series was awesome, without a doubt!

I didn’t think YJK was all that bad at the time but I wasn’t picky about my SW then. JJK lost me at Ikrit….and I can’t believe I just dragged that name out of memory.
