Japanese-style Jaina Solo figure coming from Kotobukiya

Licensee Kotobukiya will be releasing a Jaina Solo Bishoujo statue, it seems. (More proof? Heard about it from @StarWars.) While I’m happy see an Expanded Universe character get some non-Hasbro love (and George knows that’s sparing enough,) I’m not really sure what to think of the whole Bishoujo thing, other than to be grateful she’s not flashing her panties.

Speaking of non-Hasbro EU love, did anyone hear anything about that Mara figure Sideshow has said is in the pipeline? Anything? Bueller?

  1. “Bishoujo” refers to a “beautiful girl” – specifically it ends up referring to a style of manga/anime that focuses on beautiful women. The male equivalent is “Bishonen” – a beautiful man.

  2. Yay for Jaina! She’s one of my favourite EU females.

While it’s certainly not the extreme end of bishoujo portrayal, I will state right out that I don’t like the half-dressed pose. Don’t we get enough of that with Aayla?

  3. I think I’ll wait to see what the actual product looks like before I pass any judgement. I’ve seen enough booths full of these things at conventions to know that the level of detail and craftsmanship can be amazing, but I’ve never been a fan of the anime/manga exagerated art style. The sketch makes it look fairly conservative, and if they keep it that way I could see this finding a nice market niche with the Sideshow collectors. Heck, I might even buy one just because it’s Jaina.

  4. I have to admit I would buy it. But yeah, I’m relieved she will have her shit on. It doesn’t look more scanty than anything Starbuck wore in Battlestar Galactica.

  5. It’s a great idea, but I don’t know. Maybe I’m wrong, but the conceptual sketch seems to depict a Jaina Solo that doesn’t seem like Jaina Solo to me.
