If Anyone Still Cares about “Dragonriders of Pern” …

After the last one, I’m not sure why I do, but for those who are interested, the newest book in the apparently neverending Pern saga, “Dragonsblood”, will be released in the US on January 25, 2005. Information is available both at Anne McCaffrey’s website and at her son the author’s website.

The plot? Well . . . watchwhers, time travel, dragons and firelizards getting sick, more time travel, and probably the now-typical massive continuity problems that characterize the Pern books. But the cover, especially the UK cover, is purty.

  1. I made the links actually link.

Dear lord, the American cover is UG-LY. Is there plot information on the boards? Because there’s not really any on the sites that I can see.

  2. Thank you. Couldn’t figure that out.

Well, if you’re willing to brave the message boards (link should be somewhere on the main page, otherwise forum.annemccaffrey.org) there are some threads, like “DragonCon-Spoilers” that do, rather disjointedly, try to describe the plot of Dragonsblood. As far as I can tell, there is some sort of disease and/or parasite that attacks the dragons, firelizards and whers. The outline from D*C 2003 had something about some means of communication across time via the dragons. I don’t know if that’s still in or not.
