“This book will blow your mind”

April 1st, 2009 by Dunc · 48 Comments

Or at least, that’s what I was told. But seriously, you’ve got to see it to believe it. Lucasfilm has got a real powerhouse on this one…

JADED CONQUEST

Well ladies, all of you who complain there’s not enough sex mush in Star Wars… I’m afraid you’re going to get it. With a vengeance.

I wish they could have gotten Stephenie Meyer instead, but I guess she’s too big for Star Wars.

  • 3 Jocelyn // Apr 1, 2009 at 4:16 am

I love this blog. So much. Hysterical!

  • 4 Rebel Without a Clue // Apr 1, 2009 at 4:18 am

Wow. This is going to be….ehm….interesting. In so many ways. Hopefully she goes for the same style she took up for the first few books of her series (i.e., Anita still saving herself), instead of the later ones which are basically just porn with a little story thrown in.

  • 5 Jedi Fantasty // Apr 1, 2009 at 4:19 am

I heard that it’s going to feature the return of the ~*debonair*~ Bib Fortuna!

  • 6 Rebel Without a Clue // Apr 1, 2009 at 4:19 am

Oh, wait a minute. April Fools? Force, I’m too tired to function.

  • 14 Carla Lute // Apr 1, 2009 at 10:06 am

Hrm…hope this is more like the early books. I -um-heard things about her later ones.

Still it’s more Mara. I may have to read it anyway. Ooo, maybe there’ll actually be some pre-engagement romantic tension between Luke and Mara. That would so rock.

  • 15 TwilightMom // Apr 1, 2009 at 10:42 am

I loved Luke when I was younger, but now I know better.

Mara — Leave the stupid Jedi and find yourself a vampire, girl!

    Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!

  • 17 Zandra // Apr 1, 2009 at 12:34 pm

Sweet! I hope this takes place after the Thrawn Trilogy!

  • 18 Paula // Apr 1, 2009 at 12:50 pm

I could read this curled up in my Tauntaun sleeping bag.

  • 19 JadedFett // Apr 1, 2009 at 12:51 pm

Laurell K. Hamilton? Are you guys NUTS? This is just more proof that Del Rey DOESN’T GET IT. First they kill Mara, and now they’re going to let LKH turn her into a raging slut? I AM DONE.

Well, except for Republic Commando: Tipoca Thunder. But after that, Del Rey is getting no more of my money!

  • 20 DarthMojoJojo // Apr 1, 2009 at 12:59 pm

given Hamilton’s Blake series tend to use titles that are also key place names in the book.. what type of establishment is “Jaded Conquest” ;)

  • 21 Jedi Fantasty // Apr 1, 2009 at 1:01 pm

    I bet it’s a ship!

  • 22 Kataja // Apr 1, 2009 at 1:02 pm

I’d love that, I think LOL
Too bad it’s april the 1…

  • 23 Dajuan // Apr 1, 2009 at 1:25 pm

Yikes, they are letting LKH have a go at Mara? Scary thought. I used to love LKH before she turned into a pornster, sigh.

    April Fools huh?

  • 26 Angelo // Apr 1, 2009 at 2:02 pm

Guys, I’m pretty sure this is an April Fool’s joke. Like when a few years back they claimed that Willow was going to be a part of the SW universe.

  • 27 jawastew // Apr 1, 2009 at 2:05 pm

hahaha yes! the cover! just scroll down until you see ass. ;)

Is this Before or After ‘Vector of Confusion’?

  • 31 Sonic2nd // Apr 1, 2009 at 3:03 pm

I was actually looking forward to reading a new book about Mara until I remembered that this is April Fools Day.

  • 32 BobaFett4565 // Apr 1, 2009 at 3:25 pm

Isn’t it obvious this is an April Fools day prank?

  • 33 Jedi Fantasty // Apr 1, 2009 at 3:27 pm

I’m sorry that you think a SW novel geared towards female fans is a joke. :(

  • 34 Mandy // Apr 1, 2009 at 3:55 pm

@Jovial Jay I think it takes place at the same time… ;)

  • 35 s65horsey // Apr 1, 2009 at 3:59 pm

Hahaha! Dunc, you rock! I’m loling at the responses.

  • 36 Darth_Comrade // Apr 1, 2009 at 4:06 pm

    Nice April Fools joke…

I wouldn’t have approved anyway. Star Wars is not about sex…there’s plenty of that out there.

  • 37 bc // Apr 1, 2009 at 5:01 pm

When i first saw this novel announced.. i was like no way, this is an April Fools joke

  • 38 Shane // Apr 1, 2009 at 5:09 pm

UM . . . does any one other than me smell April Fool’s written all over this?

  • 39 izikavazo // Apr 1, 2009 at 4:15 pm

These comments are hilarious. I think a Judy Blume novel about Jaina would have been better.
I have to admit that the tinkering with the NJO timeline joke was a lot more surprising.

I loved Luke when I was younger, but now I know better.

Mara — Leave the stupid Jedi and find yourself a vampire, girl!
SHE IS A VAMPIRE!!! HOW ELSE CAN SHE BE 68 OR WHATEVER AND STILL LOOKS LIKE SHE IS ON HIGH SCHOOL? THAT’S HER M.O., SHE STICK HERSELF WITH THE MOST POWERFUL MAN SHE CAN FIND AND SUCKS THE LIFE OUT OF THEM. I BET SHE DATED A LOT OF GUYS BETWEEN THE EMPEROR AND LUKE THAT COULD SUPPLY HER WITH ENERGY……………………….

  • 42 Cheeser // Apr 1, 2009 at 6:24 pm

It’s too bad this is a joke. I know a lot of people that would love this.

  • 43 J // Apr 2, 2009 at 5:26 pm

Is this an April Fool’s joke? If it is, it isn’t fair. Mara’s the best of the Star Wars Characters!

  • 44 Jim // Apr 3, 2009 at 5:29 pm

    This was pretty cruel, guys.

  • 45 Emperor's Hand // Apr 16, 2009 at 7:34 am

Good thing this is april fool’s… I think I would throw up if there was a star wars romance. I also think I would kill myself before I read anything Stephenie Meyer writes

  • 46 Sultaana // Apr 17, 2009 at 11:09 pm

I love looking back at this to see how many people took this seriously. xD

  • 47 Review: Star Wars: Death Troopers by Joe Schreiber « DaveBrendon's Fantasy & SciFi Weblog // Feb 20, 2010 at 11:41 am

[...] If you look at Star Wars (the entire saga) and compare it to Death Troopers, then no, it’s not a Star Wars novel. There are no dogfights between starfighters (that sounds wrong, reading it aloud), there are no lightsaber duels; but is this what makes a Star Wars tale? I disagree. Sure, having starfighters and lightsaber duels in a Star Wars novel makes it more Star Wars, but there is room in the Galaxy Far, Far Away to play in, considering just how massive the Galaxy is. I never thought I’d say this, but it would be great to see more experimentation happening in the Star Wars EU (just not this, please, not this!) [...]
