A brief word on not being those crazy fans

I don’t know if I’ve made this clear or not, but I find people who take their fandom too seriously to be absolutely hilarious. As a Star Wars fan, I find it perplexing when other fans take up arms at any hint of irreverent criticism concerning the franchise. Are we not fans of the same fun, cheesy, flawed films? Because I don’t really have a problem admitting that the Star Wars movies (all six of them) are far from perfect. (And yes, the same goes – perhaps even more so – for the Expanded Universe. Embrace the pain! And chill out.)

So, naturally, I take great joy in Jezebel’s takedown of over-serious Twilight fans. Please, don’t let this happen to you. Do you see how ridiculous it looks? And while I’m not saying you have to lay down and take everything, it doesn’t hurt to laugh a little at the expense of what you love. Because, let’s face it – sometimes it just deserves it.

Just when you think Twilight fans have gone far enough…

And it's SOLD OUT?

You get this. Actually, the personal stalker-shadow is the least disturbing of the two unofficial Twilight products to emerge (so to speak) this week, but it is the only one actually appropriate to slapping up on this site at 500 pixels wide. The other one is so not safe for work or direct linking, if you get what I’m saying, and I think you do. (via)

Star Wars Uncut: Recreating ANH in the internet’s image

Star Wars uncut

The folks at Star Wars Uncut have an interesting take on the fan film – split A New Hope up into 15 second clips, and then have people claim a bit to recreate. The internet versions will be sewn back together into… What? We’ll just have to see. All the bits have been claimed, but some recreations have already begun to appear.

Inappropriate fannish behavior du jour

A Supernatural fan asks security to remove Jensen Ackles’ girlfriend from the convention. Or at least claims to have done so on her Livejournal. Key quote:

I was actually pissed to see her sitting behind him killing my fan squee, she was a total buzz kill, I mean seriously to sit there while he is with fans was tacky IMO.

And another, from the comments:

hahaha i heard she was a bit of a cock block for fans

Bravo, ladies. Bravo. (via)

Wacky merchandise of the day: Let the Twilight candy hearts dazzle you!

OH MY GOD I LITERALLY LOL'ED.

Yes, these Twilight conversation hearts are for real: I actually saw them in Borders today. Some of them have glitter and one says “Dazzle.” IT’S LIKE THEY’RE SPOOFING THEMSELVES.

Of course, the Twilight folks are breaking no records here: The infamous Jar Jar lollipop beats this by miles and miles. But it gave me a good laugh this morning.
