Zahn’s Hand of Judgment revealed in schedule shuffle

July 13th, 2010 by Dunc · 1 Comment

Don't get excited, it's just the Japanese Allegiance coverSue Rostoni updated her schedule blog today, and most of 2011 is affected. A lot of the moves are only by a month or so, however, and perhaps the biggest news here is that Timothy Zahn’s Allegiance sequel finally has an official title: Hand of Judgment. (You may know it by the working title: Choices.) It’s also moved up a month to July.

The most pressing move is Paul S. Kemp’s The Old Republic: Deceived, which drops from December to March – to be closer to the release of the MMO. (Which is just now launching beta testing: I’m no gamer, so make of it that you will.) Joe Schreiber’s Red Harvest moved into the vacant late-December spot.

Also drastically pushed back were Alex Irvine’s Nomi Sunrider novel (from May to December 2011) and Pablo Hidalgo’s Essential Reader’s Companion (to March 2012.) As for the rest, check the book schedule.

Fate of the Jedi: Conviction cover is out

June 22nd, 2010 by Dunc · 6 Comments

StarWars.com has our first look at the seventh Fate of the Jedi book, Aaron Allston’s Conviction. I guess Tahiri looks like Number 6 now.

On the boards, Sue Rostoni reports that the book has been moved back (from April 19) to a May 24th release.

Sue reveals two new Essentials, updated schedule

May 17th, 2010 by Dunc · 5 Comments

So I finally do an EUbits and then we get more news? Such is the life. But Sue Rostoni posted an updated book schedule today – and revealed two new reference/nonfiction books – so no sitting on/twittering this, thank you very much. Here’s what’s new:

  • Jason Fry is taking on The Essential Guide to Warfare – previously known as The Essential Guide to the Military. Folks have been clamoring for this for a while, so good to see it finally get pinned down. It’s due in June 2011

  • Meanwhile Internet Rockstar/Man Who Never Sleeps Pablo Hidalgo will be penning The Essential Reader’s Companion. And I am forced to devolve into aged memes. (I hate you, Pablo. Okay, not really.) Seriously now, Sue describes this as “a non-fiction guide to fiction, with side-bars calling out related comics and events.”
  • We also get a timeframe for Visions: November!

Meme or no meme, our schedule is updated, so go check out a new sneak peek at The Making of The Empire Strikes Back. (Holy heavy metal!)

EUbits: Inside The Making of The Empire Strikes Back

April 28th, 2010 by Dunc · No Comments

Nonfiction StarWars.com offers up a peek at J.W. Rinzler’s The Making of The Empire Strikes Back. The book’s release was recently pushed back to October, but there’s little doubt that it will be worth the wait.

Street date shuffle. On that note, our book release schedule has been updated. The most notable change: A double shot of Fate of the Jedi paperbacks as Omen and Abyss are moved up to spring.

Podcastery. Star Wars Action News talked to Paul S. Kemp earlier in the month, while the ForceCast caught up with John Jackson Miller at C2E2.

The blogside. Maya Kaathryn Bohnhoff on the end game and the last period.

Morsel. Sue Rostoni says that Joe Schreiber’s Black Orchid is getting a new title because some people thought it sounded like a romance novel. Personally I think old school Neil Gaiman/Dave McKean

Toys. Rebelscum reports that the Legacy Collection’s Expanded Universe action figures (the wave that includes Jacen and Jaina) have begun showing up at Toys “R” Us stores.

EUbits: Gambit excerpt, Kemp, Miller and comics

December 23rd, 2009 by Dunc · No Comments

Gambit: Stealth cover teaseRandom housekeeping. With two months to release date, Random House has put out an excerpt from Karen Miller’s Clone Wars Gambit: Stealth. In other news, Fate of the Jedi: Backlash has been moved back to the original release date of March 9.

Interviews. Paul S. Kemp talks Star Wars and Forgotten Realms with Stomping on Yeti, while Knights of the Old Republic’s John Jackson Miller is over at CBR.

Comics. StarWars.com has an excerpt from Dan Wallace’s Insider article about Dark Horse bringing back Star Wars comics. (The very same article from which the ‘prequel infinities’ confusion arose from. Turned out that the article is a multi-parter and the next installment will include the original Infinities and the prequel era.)

Street date shuffle: Fate of the Jedi, Clone Wars

October 25th, 2009 by Dunc · 1 Comment

Sue Rostoni said Saturday that Aaron hasn’t finished Backlash yet, so it may need to be pushed back a month to April.

In other 2010 release date changes, the Random House online catalog is now listing Karen Miller’s Clone Wars Gambit: Siege for June 22 instead of May 25. But the good news is that Gambit: Stealth is now set for February 23 – and Miller finished up the rough draft of Stealth earlier this month, so things should be on track.

I’ve added a few new dates – no real surprises, just specifics – to our release schedule, but will wait on for additional details on Backlash.

New schedule, new titles, new authors from Sue

August 13th, 2009 by Dunc · 4 Comments

We’re at JadeCon, having a blast – and I’m just taking a brief email break, and what should come up on my feed reader but a brand-spanking new book schedule from Sue Rostoni? I can’t even wrap my brain around the date changes right now, but here’s the big news:

  • Fifth and final Clone Wars book (Karen Miller) is Gambit: Siege. March 2010.

  • July 2010 will be a “coming attraction by well-known author.” Nothing more to be revealed. Sean Williams, maybe?
  • September 2010. A book that only “might” come to be.
  • A second book by Joe Schreiber (not a Death Troopers sequel) is coming October 5, 2010.
  • Fate of the Jedi book seven (Allston) is titled Conviction. April 2011.
  • The tentative title for Zahn’s Allegiance sequel is Choices. September 2011.
  • October 2011 bring a new author: Jeff Grubb.

Our book release schedule will be updated… Uhh, soon. Soonish.

In other news, she has confirmed that the Boba Fett book and Blood Oath are both canceled.

EUbits: Making of ESB, Karpyshyn, Kemp, Bohnhoff and Fixer’s pie in the sky

July 1st, 2009 by Dunc · 1 Comment

Street date shuffle: NJOE notes that The Making of The Empire Strikes Back release date has been moved up to March 23. That’s what Amazon says, anyway.

Interviews: EUC talks a bit of Darth Bane with Drew Karpyshyn.

The blogside: Paul S. Kemp has a brief Crosscurrent update, while Maya Kaathryn Bohnhoff explores sci-fi story weaving and hardware.

What Fixer comic? Since I know you’re all dying to hear about that Fixer comic, the artist, Kevin Liell, has posted at TFN clarifying some things from NYCC. I’d still file this one under ‘long shot.’

EUbits: The Clone Wars art book, Essential Atlas skips back again, Bohnhoff on Dash

May 8th, 2009 by Dunc · No Comments

First look: StarWars.com gives us a peek at The Art of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. I continue to wince at the appropriation of McQuarrie art in the name of designs based on those awful puppets. (Not that people were exactly Ralph’s greatest either, but if one must choose…) Your mileage may vary, but this is probably one Art of I’ll be sitting out for.
