In the news: George Lucas appears at Scream Awards; Mark Hamill and Red Tails at NYCC

October 16th, 2011 by Dunc · No Comments

Surprise! George Lucas made an appearance on stage at last night’s Scream Awards, as the Spike show honored Darth Vader as the ‘Ultimate Villian’.

The awards, which also gave the ‘Ultimate Scream’ prize to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 and ‘Best Fantasy Actress’ to Natalie Portman for Black Swan, will air on Spike Tuesday, October 18.

NYCC. Mark Hamill and his evil laugh has his own panel at New York Comic-Con on Friday, and Tor.com has the report. Lucas’ new film, Red Tails, also got a panel, and has a new comic-style poster by Joe Kubert as well.

Amanda Lucas. We’re all familiar with her MMA fighting career, and in a new interview she addresses the constant and inevitable Star Wars references. “I hope to do my best on my own and prove I’m not just George’s daughter. I work just as hard as my training partners and I don’t want any special treatment. (But “Star Wars” is) going to get mentioned – it’s nothing I can hide,” she said on The MMA Hour.

Fandom. The 501st Legion’s Canadian Garrison is profiled by The Sudbury Star.

Star Wars to rule TV this weekend

May 18th, 2010 by Dunc · No Comments

Spike is taking the original trilogy for a go-round beginning Saturday, while Fox will air Family Guy’s ‘Something, Something, Something Dark Side’ as the show’s finale Sunday night. (I doubt it’s worth missing the Lost finale, but I suppose people will watch it anyway.)

Spike’s big announcement: The Force Unleashed II

December 12th, 2009 by Dunc · 6 Comments

Well, that was a shock. Or not. Whatever. (Yoda, you can do better.) If that trailer gets copyrighted, it ought to be up on unleashed2010.com soon enough.

New video game announcement coming Dec. 12

November 25th, 2009 by Dunc · 2 Comments

Spike will be giving the scoop at their Video Game Awards, thus giving people an actual reason to watch a video game award show. Nice racket. (Chances are this isn’t to do with The Old Republic, since it’s already announced and they’d be fools not to milk the existing buzz: Battlefront 3, maybe? Your guesses are doubtless better than mine.)

The fourth is with Spike TV this week

June 29th, 2009 by Dunc · No Comments

“Contrary to what you’ve just seen, war is neither glamorous nor fun. There are no winners; only losers. There are no good wars, with the following exceptions: the American Revolution, World War II, and the Star Wars Trilogy. If you’d like to learn more about war, there’s lots of books in your local library, many of them with cool gory pictures.”

I doubt this Bart Simpson quote is what they had in mind, but Spike TV is celebrating the ultimate result of the first with an airing of the third next weekend. Which is to say, look for a Star Wars movie to air each night leading up to July 4 – beginning tonight at 6pm with The Phantom Menace.

Spike’s SCREAM awards honor George Lucas

October 20th, 2008 by Dunc · No Comments

Spike TV’s SCREAM 2008 awards rewarded The Maker with the Comic-Con Icon Award Saturday. Since the SCREAM awards honor the best in fantasy, sci-fi, comics and horror, plenty of our other faves also took home awards, most notably 12 for The Dark Knight. The awards will air on Spike tomorrow night at 9pm. (via)
