Mythbusters’ Adam Savage traditionally does some heavy-duty cosplay for San Diego Comic-Con, and this year one of his choices was Kylo Ren. Check out the video below, or his interview at StarWars.com.
Video: Star Wars publishing panel at SDCC
With most of the book news (for our purposes) dropping at Celebration – the authors of Catalyst and the Rogue One novelization and Thrawn – the SDCC panel was fairly light on news, but there was plenty of discussion.
There were two cover reveals, though: The Art of Rogue One and the back cover of Aftermath: Empire’s End, which you can see below.

New Rogue One character revealed at SDCC
Among the displays at the Star Wars pavilion at San Diego Comic-Con was the costume of a previously unseen Rogue One character, Edrio Two Tubes. Here are his details:
Edrio Two Tubes is a mercenary pilot who flies alongside his eggmate, Benthic. The two share the nickname derived from the breathing apparatus that allows their Tognath physiology to process oxygen atmospheres. Edrio’s home world Yar Togna was conquered and occupied by the Empire, forcing him to flee as a refugee. Desiring to strike back at the Empire, Edrio and Benthic have allied with Saw Gerrera.

It’s a Legends-heavy crowd for Hasbro’s 2016 fan choice figure poll
The Star Wars Fan Figure vote finalists are in, and it’s a Legends-heavy field this year: Jaina Solo, The Force Unleashed’s Starkiller, Darth Talon from the Legacy comics and even our own namesake Mara Jade. Rounding out the choices are The Clone Wars’ Captain Rex and bounty hunter Dengar.
(Were certain Legends zealots doing some targeted ballot-stuffing to ensure this outcome? Oh, definitely. Yet in the grand scheme of things, they clearly followed the rules, and there’s no malice to be done here. An action figure hurts no one, so let them have their fun.)
Mara won this a couple years back, and even the resulting figure was something of a disappointment, I don’t really feel tempted to vote for her again. (That Fan’s Choice was her third Hasbro figure, and every single one had to be wearing that silly catsuit, apparently.) Having three women in the finals might be unprecedented, but I don’t find any of the choices all that exciting. Vote as you will: The winner will be announced at Hasbro’s SDCC panel on Friday.
Mark Hamill hosting, producing collecting series for SDCC’s upcoming video service
Mark Hamill’s Pop Culture Quest, a documentary-style series about collectors and their collections, will debut on Comic-Con HQ in the fall.
The video-on-demand service, which will also feature a show from Ashley Eckstein’s Her Universe, plans to launch this summer on Roku, AppleTV and Amazon.
Disney’s D23 Expo set for July 2017
Disney has announced dates for their next D23 Expo as July 14-16 in Anaheim, California. While the con has always been positioned as the company’s own alternative to San Diego Comic Con, these dates put D23 awfully close to when SDCC traditionally falls. The last D23 was held in mid-August, while Star Wars was the only Disney property to have a major Hall H panel at that year’s SDCC.
Although D23 was fairly light on the Star Wars movie news in 2015, it was where they revealed our first look at the so-called ‘Star Wars Land.’
2017 is also expected to be the next domestic Star Wars Celebration, but that will likely be held in either the spring or fall. We’ll probably find out at the closing ceremonies this year’s Celebration Europe.

The catchup: Guillermo del Toro’s Star Wars idea and more from SDCC
Guillermo del Toro would pitch Lucasfilm a Jabba the Hutt film in the style of The Godfather. I would have expected something a little more out-of-the-stock-fanboy-box from del Toro, but I’m sure he could knock it out of the park if it ever happens.

For those of us who didn’t get to be in Hall H and treated to a live concert, the behind-the-scenes video was the highlight of The Force Awakens panel in San Diego. So, naturally, we obsess. Yesterday I looked at the panel itself, but today is all about screencaps. Or, you should probably watch the video again…
